With all this talk of disaffected Republicans, leaving their party, etc it is important to remember

to the extent they might be inclined to join the Democratic party it will just further dilute our ability to hold true to our principles and platform. The added numbers might look good on paper, but it won't do a thing to suit me. I would just as soon they become Independents, or better yet, just quit voting. jmho

1. The tea party is waiting with open arms

After all that's what the tea party is republicans embarrassed by the shrub. They never left the party just called themselves something else so they could try to get elected again without shrubs stain rubbing off on them.

2. Perhaps. But I have seen news items the last couple of days from Republicans that are done with

their party as it is...Tweety had the guy from Iowa who left his party (county chairman) last night, and I saw a newspaper story yesterday about several in Maine who are done with Republicans. The reasons they list suggest to me they really aren't too much in a tea party mood, necessarily. Tweety hounded the guy for a minute trying to determine if he might consider coming to the Democratic party, which thankfully he didn't sound too inclined to do.

That worked out rather well didn't it? They may not call themselves baggers but they will call themselves something and it wont be democrats.

These guys arent stupid they see the writing on the wall the republicans are destroying themselves, They are looking for a way to hold on to their seats.

3. Repubs seem to peel off in both directions.

The extreme right leave because the party isn't fanatical enough.
Traditional Republicans leave because the party is too fanatical.

Neither seem to leave for anywhere in particular.
The just want out.

It's a real mess.

5. Let them form their own party. We have enough of the last bunch who left when their own

party became too crazy for them. We don't need Republican far right and Republican center right. We need two parties at least. But they welcome to form a new party, that would be a good thing.
