GOP Congressman Owned By Businessman At Town Hall Meeting Over Obamacare

One common complaint that has long plagued the Democratic Party is their ongoing inability, or reluctance, to aggressively hold Republicans feet to the fire and call them out for the relentless barrage of lies and disinformation they continually feed the public about Obamacare. While counter-attacks from the Democratic establishment have remained largely anemic, knowledgeable and informed constituents are starting to fight back, directly challenging GOP House members who have been holding town hall meetings the past few weeks.
Nevada Congressman Joe Heck was the latest victim of a knowledgeable constituent slap down when Ron Nelson, a businessman from his district, armed to the teeth with facts, confronted him this past weekend at a town hall meeting.
Nelson laid out a laundry list of Obamacare benefits that are already benefiting both his business and his familys health care. He spoke about his wife getting a pap smear and his child receiving a seven-year checkup, both with no copay. He said he has checked out the insurance rates on the state health exchange that will open October 1st and that the rates for the exact same plan that he currently has will be 9% cheaper.
Then he hit Rep. Heck with the one question every Congressman who opposes Obamacare should have to answer:
The Congressmans only response was to spout the same tired, old GOP talking points on Obamacare. His biggest defense for why the Republicans continue to march, lock step, against Obamacare: because it was passed with no Republican input. What he failed to mention is that the GOP had no interest whatsoever in actually working with Democrats to craft comprehensive health care reform. Someone should remind Heck that when Republicans controlled the House and Senate during the Bush administration, they perfected the art of ramming through legislation, even when it required the intimidation and browbeating of their own party hold outs. And they always did so in the middle of the night on a Friday when the fewest Americans and news outlets were watching.
