Not sure if they stream -- I see it on my local PBS which broadcasts MHz Worldview 24/7 on a sub-channel. I think the Web site is www.france24.com.
Here's what they said (a synopsis from my aged memory):
It ended up being an exposé of news media sites apparently not honoring Manning's request and whether that breached journalistic rules. Apparent both interviewer and interviewee both agreed that the measure on this issue was Manning's request.
Then, the interviewee said something that put it all into perspective. He basically posed the following question (paraphrase):
Would it be journalistically correct to continue to call Muhammed Ali as Cassius Clay?
Hopefully this puts the journalist's obligation into perspective.
Wish I had had a pad of paper and a pen handy when the story hit. It was framed beautifully.
BTW, they specifically cited The Guardian as honoring Chelsea Manning's request.
And apparently France 24 as well.
Good for them.

(18,219 posts)and I am amazed at the things we do not hear about on MSM news here. I am not surprised that they were much more dignified about Chelsea Manning.

(40,416 posts)It's not up to the journalist to decide whether Manning is male or female. That's Manning's decision. (I dare not use the word "choice" here because I don't think it was a choice for her.)
The Muhammed Ali argument was beautifully done.
Shameless, self-kick. I cannot believe, with all the threads on Chelsea vs. Bradley the past day, that there's been only one response to this thread. DU is what DU is. Alas!

(18,219 posts)I know that I am close to ignoring all Manning threads myself. And of course, you didn't stir up any shit.

(40,416 posts)Their argument was, what is the journalist's obligation with regards to Manning's gender?
They framed it beautifully. Like this (as close as I can come):
Would it be appropriate to call Muhammed Ali as "Cassius Clay"?
No journalist would do that. There are no more excuses after that example.

(40,416 posts)I looked on their site for video, but the only link about Manning is text, and doesn't bring up the journalism issue. (However, I notice that they adhered to it judiciously -- in this case eschewing gendered pronouns altogether.) I have no idea if the article was written before the interview was filmed. I suspect future stories on Manning on France 24 will either use she and Chelsea or will avoid making a commitment. I hope it's the former.
Their position in the coverage was very strong in favor of Chelsea, which is why I posted this thread.

(18,219 posts)I get it on the TV ever since I dropped cable and went to over-the-air stations. This is on nightly on one of the PBS sub-channels.
But here is the website:

(9,314 posts)need to know - Chelsea Manning asked to be referred to as Chelsea. I don't understand what the problem is for some people.
