What is this shit with teens killing for entertainment?

I know I'm so old I fart dust, but this is ridiculous.

Back in the North Idaho of the 1970s where and when I grew up, our bored teens were easily amused. Johnny and Susie and their friends were bored, they'd buy a keg of beer and go to the woods, or they'd get a couple of lids of weed and a half-dozen empty Pepsi cans, or they'd have an orgy. Simple, easy, and as long as they didn't drive after doing this shit no one got hurt. Today Johnny is a doctor, Susie is an engineer and all the little old ladies in town who didn't croak of natural causes like getting run over by logging trucks are still alive.

This summer, some teens in Oklahoma killed an Australian baseball player at random to alleviate their boredom, some teens in Spokane killed an old veteran to alleviate their boredom, and some asshat decided to hunt kittens with a bow-and-arrow and post pictures the dead kitties on Facebook to alleviate HIS boredom.

Come on, America: bring back fucking and weed. Innocent bystanders survive those things.

Dragged from her car as she waited at an intersection on a sunny Southern California day, she was thrown to the pavement, pistol whipped, then shot twice through her left eye. The teen who dug about the front seat of her car and made off with her purse (netting less than $10 in cash and coin), was 16. The gunman was 14. It all happened August 8, 1973.

I never knew an idyllic America. Took a lot of drugs. Drank a lot, too. But more to dull the ache than to ease boredom.

And ever been bored in my life, never had time to rest. Always work to do and it never ends.

I can add I've never seen the idyllic life some talk about here, as an orphan, but it's not appropriate to tell you or anyone.

I regret that I have no words to make you feel better. Just sorry.

The Leopold and Loeb case (1024) was a big deal famously fictionalized in Alfred Hitchcock's 1948 film, Rope. Some claim it as Hitchcock's best. It's claustrophobic and stagy due to the fact that Hitch shot the whole film without editing, one film can at a time in single takes. Because of that alone, it may Hitch's most creative. Jimmy Stewart stars. Fortunately, it's available on YouTube.

many will scream racist as I've posted this but I assure you that there are both black and white idiots posting this stuff. I live in Brunswick, Georgia where recently a teen murdered Antonio Santiago, an 11 month old baby boy by shooting him in the face. This is that teens Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/demarquise.elkins?fref=ts If you go through his "friends" list you see 824 people doing mainly two things. 1) boys acting like thug gangstas ( they put MVG beside their names, which stands for Money Ville Gangsta) and 2) girls taking close up pics of themselves ( the stupid Facebook arm out shooting a pic back at oneself shot). This is the culture America has become. Self obsessed wannabe know nothings who pride themselves on their '"amazingness". It is Idiocracy the movie, come to life. The fact this baby murderer has 824 friends speaks volumes about how far the country has fallen. This is all the proof you would ever need to know our country is absolutely fucked. If you check the pages of his male friends you can see that many of them post violent messages. Even in regards to murdering people. This is the culture we are dealing with these days. It is fucking horrible and that is the real truth.

I totally agree with you.

Crude, violent ignorance pervades American popular culture and reflects what America has become.

I was in China (Beijing) this summer and never felt afraid. Even going through airport security was less onerous than here. Part of it was NO fucking GUNS

We have become our own worst enemy. Gun culture, thug culture, me me me culture...we are in a race to the bottom with no end in sight. I'm originally from England and my wife is Russian yet we live in Georgia so we have a bit of an outsider looking in scenario. Both of the countries we come from have a lot of problems when it comes to youths but nothing like what I see here in the southern US. These kids are truly horrible. They have no manners and no sense of decency. Most barely speak the English language. (Their Facebook pages need to be translated). They are crude and have no respect for life. Yet everyone of them thinks they are a genius with amazing looks. It's an epidemic. I think overall it shows that in an unregulated capitalist society the cream doesn't rise to the top. The crap does.

Absent parents, disinterested parents, irresponsible parents, ineffective parents... who never taught their children that they can't always get their own way, that they aren't "perfect" but should strive to be "better", that boredom is relieved by imagination and creativity, that this isn't the wild west... etc. etc. etc. Yeah, there's always going to be a "bad seed" sort now and again, but well-adjusted kids don't raise themselves. In these cases, though, I'd venture to say that's exactly what happened.
