I have always objected to this line

He/She gave their lives for whatever cause. The truth is that he/she was killed by those who opposed change. They did not give their lives-their lives were taken.

Hale was noble and heroic, and he did say "I only regret that I have but one life to give for my country" before he was hanged. He did, however, choose on his own to spy for the Continental Army.
