They have gone so far to the right, that any play to the middle will be viewed (and broadcast) as major flip floppping. I think that each candidate in the GOP primary has gone too far to the right (thanks faux news for creating an audience to become the frothy tea party) to be accepted as authentic when running to the middle.

The longer the GOP primaries go - the further the run to the reactionary right (ex. who thought the issue of access to birth control would be an issue in 2012) the harder to try to slog back to the middle in a way that anyone but the hard right would vote for.

When teaparty Gov. 38% of Maine started angling for consideration at the coming brokered convention. There are still a lot more clowns in that clown car waiting for their 15 minutes as #1..
