(36,649 posts)Though the word "error" isn't quite right for a war that killed 4500 American soldiers and murdered up to 2 million Iraqi civilians.

(53,661 posts)Barack Obama: What we gain by stopping the war
That was in 2007 for just one district... Check where the part in the talk where he says, 'We've been borrowing from China...'
People wonder why we are in bed with the Chinese, financially and economically. Why all these trade treaties were signed and why we see Chinese emigrating and taking towns, businesses and schools.
Did anyone think that we would not have to pay for these wars? That the Chinese do not have a right to take equity in return for their debt? That they lent us all of this money out of a sense of love or loyalty for the USA?
This is where the GOP jumped off the ship of reality and left sanity and a huge mess behind for a Democratic administration to take the heat for trying to recover from. Obama does not have that luxury, he has to deal with the bankers and foreign governments that have us by the neck.
For that, he is called an appeaser and friend of the banksters and selling out our jobs. He's doing the job he was elected for but getting no credit at all, since it's going to take decades to recover from this GOP mess.
They did this and we have a huge problem trying to get out from under this. Look to see more Chinese firms taking American jobs while we try to pay off these wars as we must all look to the big picture, the international one.
It's an inescapable cost of wars of choice and allowing corporations to do what should be performed for the public need. Americans have suffered from a manipulated sense of patriotism that is going to destroy the nation most people joined the service to protect. And we'd better unite to take care of this mess.

(84,675 posts)This is something we've been working toward, FOR YEARS. Working toward, praying for, blogging about, petitioning for, protesting the continuation of, marching against, emailing about, writing our reps and our LTTEs about, agonizing about, and losing sleep over.
And once again - we were the ones who were correct about this. We called this from the beginning, and of course few people listened.
I'm just glad this day came. Let's get out of Afghanistan too! NOW!!!!!!! We need those billions of dollars HERE AT HOME!!!!!!

Obama ended the war against Iraq after prolonging it unnecessarily for three more years. And the war against Afghanistan continues. Excuse me for not celebrating.

(4,748 posts)than never. I thought we'd learned about the terrible cost of war after Vietnam, but the profiteers found a way. WWI was known as the war to end war, but the USA keeps finding ways to repeat the same horrible mistakes. Poor kids fighting rich mens' wars as Steve Earle sings.

(53,410 posts)Way different than when we left Vietnam. Obama made sure to mark this occasion with a very personal appearance and an expression of gratitude to the troops. I hope they can be taken care of now that they're no longer in a war zone. At least some of them.

(17 posts)In fact, many thousands of armed U.S. private "contractors" will occupy the country. The so-called "war" continues.
