if that is even possible. The GOP is probably going to self destruct over this.

Whatever side of this you are on to use Health Care as a hostage is a fucking crime. Or it should be..

In Syria and their vote is yes and it turns out well then they would be happy. If GOP's votes yes it wil mean they are working with Obama and this was would be bad. If they voted no and it turns out good then they would be in trouble. Just as Hillary and Kerry got into trouble with their votes the same would happen to other Congressional members. I think they prefer for Obama to use his war powers and stick his neck out.

He believes strongly in this. It also places more pressure on congress to respond. The people are demanding a debate. We must first clear our dirty laundry. Its a coming to Jesus moment.

We are now going to have an open debate about the future role of this country, and possibly air out the dirty laundry of Iraq in doing so.

Light up the phones and demand congress say "NO." Thankfully it's not just people on the left who recognize that this would be a catastrophic error. We can support Obama by having the legislative branch direct him not to do this.

Rep. Garamendi: Possible Military Action in Syria Needs a Debate and Vote in Congress

Aug 30, 2013

WALNUT GROVE, CA – As the Administration signals that a strike in Syria is likely imminent, Congressman John Garamendi (D-Fairfield, CA), a Member of the House Armed Services Committee, today urged Congressional leadership to end the August recess and call Congress back into session to address this urgent matter. Garamendi authored a provision in the Fiscal Year 2014 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) making clear that the legislation did not provide an Authorization for the Use of Military Force (AUMF) for military action in Syria. This provision was incorporated into the FY 2014 NDAA, which was passed by the House of Representatives.

“There is no greater decision we can make than the decision to go to war. The American people elected 535 representatives to Congress to vote on issues of war and peace. With the Administration signaling that war is likely imminent, we must return to Washington to debate intervention in Syria. Before we rush to war, we need a full hearing and a real debate. We need a vote,” Garamendi said.

On Wednesday, Garamendi coauthored bipartisan letters with Rep. Walter Jones (R-NC) to the President and House leadership calling for “Congressional authorization before ordering the use of military force in Syria.” Rep. Garamendi is also a signatory to the letter on Syria authored by Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA).

Garamendi added, “When Prime Minister David Cameron asked British Parliament to support an intervention in Syria, they rejected his call for war. I don’t know where Congress will come down on war in Syria, but I do know the American people deserve to find out. The legislative branch is a coequal branch of the federal government. Before we send the brave men and women of our military into harm’s way again, Congress must act on its constitutionally-required authority to debate the merits of this war and render a decision with a formal declaration of war vote.”

Are they going to take the WH's "least untruthful" word on the situation? Are they willing to be left hung out to dry by Obama when the operation goes bad...like he did to European countries who forced down Morales's plane? Obama's bad Karma coming home to roost....peep are figuring out its risky to do business with him, hes toxic. Might as well wait until UN investigation releases their report, which will be a week and a half. So no rush.

And having voting for him twice, and donating generously to his campaign, I am within my right to be critical of the POTUS when he blunders off-course...which is all too frequent lately. If you're looking for uncritical adoration, the BOG is thataway >.

Thats a small step in the right direction.
Otherwise, no. TPP is bad, chained-CPI is bad, education policy bad, spying on Americans is bad, spying on UN is bad, harassing journalists is bad, abusing Sedition Act to punish whistle-blowers is bad... OK, he was dragged kicking and screaming to reverse himself on gay marriage. Thats two small steps. Otherwise, a big disappointment.

There's no UN report, and a lot of analysis left to do. Obviously there should be no rush into yet another war in the Middle East. I hope that congress takes plenty of time. I'd be happy if they took a couple years, in fact!
