I knew I liked that man....he hates war period, because of past experiences.
Kerry okay with it too,.
This was said on CNN - Don Lemon's hour.
Makes a lier out of that sour grapes general that msnbc had on...he said that they or one of them may have to resign....

(10,044 posts)and his guest, Kerry, having been a Senator, knows that the President trumps cabinet members. He will be loyal to his president and do his best.
He will be on State of the Union tomorrow with Candy Crowley.

(10,044 posts)Kerry/others said he didn't need approval and Kerry yesterday laid it all out. Today, the carpet was pulled out from under him with the Congressional approval addition to the plot. He never knew . . . Hagel didn't know either, but he's not a hawk, so he's great with it.

(46,416 posts)it's better to give Congress a vote.

(59,504 posts)What Kerry said was and is the administration's position. Neither Hagel or Kerry are doves.
There are two hearings on Libya that address this question - of whether on limited actions approval is needed.

(59,504 posts)information rather than either Secretary.
The fact that Secretary Kerry is being sent to all 5 talk shows as the administration voice suggests that he is in good standing with Obama. Incidentally, it was Obama who sent Kerry out to lay out the administration's case that chemical weapons were used. Had Obama not thought he did a good job last week, what are your bets that he would have assigned someone else Friday?
What they were ok with is the decision to go to Congress - which is NO surprise given their past opinions on that while in the Senate and able to give their opinion.

(10,044 posts)and faith in Kerry's ability to get whatever done that he is asked to do. And this delay in military action would be like a Christmas gift to Hagel, the Secretary of War who hates war. Probably should be called Secretary of Defense as a Last Resort ...
I think Obama feels that way about Biden and his 2 Secretaries. I kinda see a love there.

(45,319 posts)He's no dove, and he's also a Republican. So I'm not into the love fest over him. At all. Many Senators voted against the invasion, even Republican Lincoln Chafee. Hagel said 'WMD and Yellowcake, let's go!!!'

(10,044 posts)That's why Obama had such a hard time getting him confirmed by the Senate.
All the wounded got to him. He wants war when it's needed and will do his best to see that we win when we're in one....operative word here is needed....
I saw him testify and he's not a hawk, maybe not a dove, but not a hawk.

(59,504 posts)he could not hide it. (I remember Imus, who liked Jacbs -- and liked Kerry - having a big problem with Jacobs.)

(10,044 posts)out of embarrassment for being out of the loop and unimportant. He said no countries they engaged in talks would pay any attention to them. This was on Andrea Mitchell's program.
I think that he's wrong and that countries will pay more attention. They don't like the way we try to run everything.
Today is the first time I ever disliked Jacobs and am glad to see a least part of the MIC is not happy with Congress getting into the act..
I think MIC is Military Industrial Complex (and its stockholders and paid politicians).

(59,504 posts)It is strange though to say he was out of the loop, when OBAMA ASSIGNED him the job of laying out the case - not once, but twice. He is also the one assigned to go on the 5 talk shows. He also ignores that in his speech, Obama says that he can act without Congress, but thinks it is better to get it.
I also think that Kerry's words on Syria are in line with who he is. The fact is that he has better relations with most leaders on a personal basis than almost anyone else has had. Oddly, we may know one reason due to Chelsea Manning. The Boston Globe assigned someone to look at the cables concerning Kerry - the result, unlike for many - is that he came out looking very good. Asking the right questions and his own positions were consistent with what he said in public.
If anything, his passionate condemnation of moral atrocities is very consistent with his own history.
It would be a loss if being given the role he has here were to harm his ability to be a diplomat - something he excels at.

(46,416 posts)and Hagel runs the DoD, not foreign policy. Jacobs is a numbnuts.
