Imagine one million cars parked in western North Dakota and left running. That's how much pollution is happening and how much energy is being wasted by burning natural gas at wells producing oil, so much that it creates a bright spot visible from space. This waste is done to be able to make quick profits from oil extraction by fracking.

To study this issue further, a non-profit called Space For All will send cameras and instruments on a weather-balloon to the edge of space—well, the upper tropopause—to examine air quality and infrared emissions from oil shale fracking and flaring.



For the past year, our satellite monitoring of infrared data from around the world has detected immense amounts of light and heat coming from natural gas flares in North Dakota’s Bakken Shale. A recent study concluded that 30 percent of the natural gas produced in North Dakota is being wasted by a process called flaring, and the carbon dioxide emissions alone are equivalent to the annual emissions of 1 million automobiles. .........

Frackenlooper is an asshole.

Ban fracking nationally - and then sentence the frackers by forcing them to drink fracked water.

Consequences happen, and there's no reason to fucking frack when there are alternative energy such as geothermal energy (the state Capital is powered by geothermal energy - the only state capitol to do that), wind energy and hydroelectrity. All of them sustainable.

4. This makes no sense.

But then again, profiteers don't care about what makes sense. If so much gas is coming up with the oil, why are they burning it off? Why not capture it for use, since it is the way many of us heat our houses and cook our meals? If this is all about energy production, why is it wasted, causing even more pollution instead of less (as we are told will happen when we use natural gas instead of oil). So ask me again why I am opposed to fracking!

I am flabbergasted.
