Republicans are losing to Democrats because pop culture in the United States is dominated by liberal thought, according to conservative writer and TV editor Bill Whittle.
At the RightOnline Conference in Orlando on Saturday, Whittle singled out the TV show Family Guy with particular disdain.
Any audience of people that grew up with classical Superman automatically love this country because Superman is about the best America we can be, and when Superman was all over the pop culture we were a nation that loved this country, he remarked. Now, 20 years after the peak of Supermans popularity along comes Gilligans Island. Thats pretty neutral in terms of politics. Really about the only message you can get from Gilligans Island is if you want to get off the island all you have to do is kill Gilligan.
But if youre a young person out there today and you can finish the theme song from Family Guy, then all the anti-American, anti-capitalist, anti-Christian, anti-morality messages of Family Guy are in your head as completely and thoroughly as that theme song is.

video:
Whittle (why doesn't his last name start with S?) has a popular Youtube show called Afterburner produced by Pajamas Media. Recently on V&M someone published his crazy bigoted talk about Trayvon. His 2011 anti-Occupy video "Three and a Half Days" has nearly 2 million hits on YouTube and even has been discussed on DU. According to wikipedia's he's been an editor for the Discovery Channel, AMC, TCM, and the History Channel.

(36,281 posts)I've never seen Family Guy. Of course, not using television probably makes me doubly weird to that guy.

He'd just come along and scoop 'em up under his arm
Like that, quick as a cat in the jungle
But Clark Kent now there was a real gent
He would not be caught sittin' around in no

Supermen never made any money
For saving the world from Solomon Grundy
And sometimes I despair the world will never see
Another man like him

A Republican Superman would have insisted on money, though.

(23,768 posts)just the very moniker conservative means you're a closed thinker, narrow minded and behind the times.
Usually that means you've let yourself become a mean spirited asshole.

(11,856 posts)in many ways, and it was this same country that was being fed "shit cassaroles" through the tee vee for all or most of the 50's & 60's. Father Knows Best, Ozzie & Harriet, The Lone Ranger, and all the rest pointed in one direction.....white men. Period.
Save your city, give the correct answers to everything, rescue all blond women from whatever sin she committing or having committed upon her, white male is the answer.
Sorry Bill....we're not going back.

(11,856 posts)in rapt awe or believed that fare was realistic or appilcable to our everyday lives, but not all.
I have heard the question asked many times "why so many baby boomers were conservatives ?" Well it's because there were just as many who bought and were raised right in line with what they were fed. Sure, some "sowed thier oates" for awhile, but when they smoked all the weed they could, made the rounds as a quasi hipster, getting a share of all that "free love" they came to their sense and beat it to Wall Street, and husband security, or some variation of it.
and btw, some of us fought in Vietnam and protested it when we got back.

(22,308 posts)Family Guy is popular because it reflects the views held by it's viewers. It does not create them. There may be some slight influence but cause and effect is exactly the opposite of what Mr. Whittle seems to think it is.

(18,219 posts)don't they? Interesting that it is the liberal media that is causing the downfall of the conservatives. Yeah, you keep thinking that, Repukes.

And I have NEVER watched an episode of Family Guy. Just from the previews, it looks like it SUCKS. Give me the Simpson's any day.

(2,424 posts)But this editor has worked for networks that give us duck noise millionaires, hillbillies hunting the "grassman" with shotguns, a group that roams the nation in search of Sasquatch, and a toothless psychotic capturing wild animals with his bare hands.
If anyone thinks wtf with television, Mr. Whittle isn't a good person to start asking why.

(8,132 posts)a send-up of how out of touch, delusional, narcissistic and just plain stupid the 1% are? I mean, an airhead like Thurston Howell III was hardly an homage to the values of America's business community.
Sounds pretty "left wing" to me.
