There was a time back in the day when DU would kick it into high gear and make our voices heard on important issues. It's that time again. We are looking a potential military strike on a foreign country -- there isn't any more serious issue for us to weight in on. Let's hammer'em.
We have a week to make a difference. Please keep this kicked so that others can access this important information.

But, a big push when they get back would be great. There are some petitions out there circulating from DFA...I think.

(22,271 posts)Feinstein is salivating at the thought of making more millions on another war. Boxer will never go along with it. I've written, I've called, I've marched, I've protested and NONE of it made any different during the IWR. Nothing is going to get through to these soulless sellouts until we take to the streets EN MASSE.
HardTimes99
(2,049 posts)outrages. Here's what I think I've learned. ANSWER sponsored marches and rallies in downtown Los Angeles on weekends when the streets were empty and the only people watching were Latino and Asian shopkeepers and patrons. The media ignored us for the most part and we got more attention from the LAPD and various other security goons. So, starting in early 2004, I switched from attending the large rallies and demos and instead began attending weekly anti-war vigils in my neighborhood. I think doing this was a more effective tactic for getting the message out to rank and file working- and middle-class Angelenos. (I read that at one point there were some 100 of these regular local vigils happening in the Los Angeles metropolitan area alone.)
So I'm not sure I agree with you that "NONE of it made any different," as I can attest to seeing the mood change from pro-Bush, pro-war to anti-Bush, anti-war on an almost weekly basis in West Los Angeles. Whether that mood changed because of our vigil or in spite of it I do not have any way of knowing. But I'd like to at least flatter myself that local vigilling is an effective way to convey messages to your community.
Just a thought and, btw, 'thanks' for protesting against Bush. Makes you a hero(ine) in my book.

(2,397 posts)Do you remember the "Freeway Blogger"?
(This is for others as well).
When the Duffus was squatting in the WH, the Freeway Blogger used to post handmade signs on freeway over-passes in major cities.
I haven't checked his site since duffus left office, but I guess I could now--as we all could for those who are unfamiliar with his form of "getting the message out".
Wow! Not sure what it was HT, but something triggered my memory banks to mention this.
"Should have had a V-8".
UPDATE: Yup. He's still on-the-air and running.

I of course immediately plagiarized it and turned it into a sign I used at anti-war protests and demos ever after

As for Freeway sign, he had a few that were brilliant. Can't remember its been so long.
And just looking at his site, its an environmental theme. Maybe time to shift back to war theme....again.

(2,049 posts)our efforts. Did our efforts prevent the Bush Junta from committing a war crime and crimes against humanity? No. Did they prevent the Democratic leadership from being accessories before and after the fact to said crime? No. But letter-writing and calls have never prevented a crime from being committed, AFAIK. That said, Jane Harman (my rep at the time) was forced to step down from what would have been her chairmanship of the House Intelligence Committee after the 2006 mid-terms. Gebhardt and Daschle are long-forgotten unpleasant memories. Even though the presumptive heir-apparent in 2008, Iraq hung like an albatross around Hillary's (and Biden's) neck. The person who did win the nomination in 2008 had taken an anti-war stance at about the same time you and I took the same stance. Granted, that person has now sold the anti-war movement down the river, as it were. But that's hardly new in politics. And now when President Obama needs allies, he won't find them among the progressive left and has to go begging for them from the fascists who scorn him for, of all things, his race.

(10,611 posts)if they think voting "no" will screw the President over, they may seize the opportunity. I doubt they think of the POTUS as a fellow "One Percenter", though some corners of the Left seem to think he's at the top of the pile.

(16,187 posts)When all the Dems were running in '08, Randy Rhodes reviewed the candidates on their war stance and H. Clinton and Obama were about the worst. So I guess I never thought he would end the war in Iraq...when he did, the no war in Iraq-ish bumper sticker came off my car. Now, I plan to take a razor blade to the Obama sticker, because I cannot condone what he is doing.
Grieving for the people who have lost so much in Syria and will lose even more when and if we intervene. Ugh.

(71 posts)People, make those calls. When I called this morning my senator's and rep's mailboxes were not yet full. We need to fill them up
and keep on it. Make visible demonstrations with well thought out signs and show up where you are least expected. We need to get very loud for a long time.

This one's the most popular petition on the White House site that I found when I searched for "Syria".

I called one of these 's and they ask for ...
Your full name
your e-mail address
your phone #
and what your calling about
IDK...I am willing to be active, but how convenient for them to NSA us all.
In a different post I said that nothing quiets the masses on the other issues
like mentioning WAR!
I appreciate all the information provided in the OP and bookmarked.
I am just to suspicious.. Why now, out of the blue just before the turds return
from vacay.. What are they really planning?
Needless to say...I am on HIGH ALERT with this and I hope every one here is too!

YES you should ALWAYS call and voice your opinion. I say that even though I am pro-intervention myself
at this point. Everyone should call. All the time. And always say "I vote and I drag others to the polls with me."

I don't know why, but something about the timing and all, makes it stink to me..
I will wait and sleep on it, and tomorrow see if I feel it passes the smell test any
better than since this talk of war started.
Your probably right, and I will call and do anything else to give support either way..
Thank you for the input! Much appreciated.. These are very ominous times.
I am paying close attention to every detail. I don't take it lightly, and I am relieved the

The only thing new with me is my phone # so my position on possibly
not calling is mute. My state reps know me anyway. They would expect
a call from me on something so vitally important as a opinion to War.
Your OP has given us no excuse not to be active on this issue.
Thanks

(10,716 posts)...of course, that's international law, and it really is the UN's role to enforce it. But if the UN fails to enforce international law, what then? Does NATO just ignore it too? And do we want to establish the precedent that the US really doesn't care either?
When bush used white phosphorous against falluja, I really wish someone had stood up and opposed it. Using sarin is a big step farther, and I still really wish someone would oppose it. At some point, one precedent stacks upon another, and the world is a different place. Which I don't think is a good option either.
Hell Hath No Fury
(16,327 posts)There are other options that need to be tried before we send the tomahawks. There is an unnecessary rush to war -- and yes, it IS war -- right now, one that needs to slow the fuck down.

Unlike 2003, when DU was unified in opposition, there are a hell of a lot of Democratic Hawks supporting military action.
