I don't think anyone is honestly expecting 200 Tomahawk Missiles to "solve" anything.

We are "sending a message", a misguided message that will cost the lives of even more
innocents, who we murder and then dismiss as "collateral damage".

What could go wrong? It's sorta like a "slam dunk"- just a simple little bomby thing and then we're out of there. It's not like any other countries are watching and waiting (certainly not Russia or Iran) or that there's any chance a surgical strike (or whatever they want to name it ), has any long term implications or effects everyone in Syria (and their neighbors).

If the point is to demonstrate that one cannot use chemical weapons with impunity, then just about anything will demonstrate that point.
