They dont have the strength of character. They dont even have the desire to be strong. Instead, they show submissiveness, spinelessness, lack of punctuality, and many other factors which prevent them from becoming political activists. These are qualities which it was essential to teach them.
Mr Svyatski insists to Ms Green that his influence on the group is positive. However, when he is asked directly whether he started Femen to get girls, he replies: Perhaps yes, somewhere in my deep subconscious.
One of the Femen campaigners talks of the relationship between the women and the movements founder as being akin to Stockholm syndrome, in which hostages feel sympathy for their captors.

Outed by Australian film-maker Kitty Green, she says: Its his movement and he hand-picked the girls. He hand-picked the prettiest girls because the prettiest girls sell more papers. The prettiest girls get on the front page that became their image, that became the way they sold the brand.
I swear I dont want to go all I TOLD YOU SO SUCKERS but seriously. We talked about this.
We talked about the fact that the whole point of Femen was to capture the male gaze, thereby capturing the attention of the media. We talked about the fact that we should be skeptical anytime anyone makes reference to a new face of feminism and that face is either lingerie, something about pole dancing, or boobs. We talked about the fact that if a dude posts a photo of boobs and tells you its feminism, its not.
All feminists who are smart and unfooled by the self-objectification-is-empowerment crap and who havent come down with a bad case of burlesque-brain like the rest of the third wave also knew better than to fall for the Femen garbage. So I'll say from the first I'll probably only make this one post, and then the inevitable onslaught will have to continue without me. As this thread has already gotten large, its going to be impossible later - if I do have time - to get back on and answer everyone about this. So by that point I'll most likely ignore it and keep going on Syria. So with that said...
I believe I've respectfully disagreed with most of you about Femen. I'm pretty sure I never mocked anyone NOR did I belittle your positions.
As far as this movie, and the guy behind Femen - honestly, I'd really like to get more info. What's presented is ugly for sure. But how do we know this is the truth? Many "documentaries" purport to be truth but as we know "facts" can be relevant and spun very easily. The OP itself is an opinion piece with even her headline a speculation. That's not very persuasive. None of us have seen the documentary so it seems premature to say its all "true".
My positions about Femen and their actions have been laid out ad nauseum in other threads about Femen. I truly don't have time to do battle (again and for the 20th time) on their techniques.

So she says that they were excited to start a movement but had no idea what it does or should do? Does it sound remotely plausible to want to start a movemnt but not know why- or what the reason for it is- seriously??
And they couldn't find out about feminism anywhere? Yet they slam academics instead of learning anything about the patriarchy, LOL? Seriously Steve? Does this ALL sound dumb as a bunch of rocks or what? It does.
Now she says he "just took over", but a few days ago- she said he sparked it- helped start it. So they have been a movement for 3-4 years and just figured out " the patriarchy" six- nine months ago? And you didn't call her out on any of it? Or ask about any of the other conflicting stories she told about the "kidnapping" and harassment where they had to leave a country they had already left months before? Do you have any answers about which story is correct and why she told different versions?
She is barely articulate- rambling on with vague BS about the patriarchy- what is she saying to you, Steve, that makes sense, let alone can find so compelling? Please do explain. Why would you believe someone cut someone off a year ago and still uses them for PR on their website a few weeks ago?
This guy worked with her for years- she knew him very well- and was still connected to the movement a month ago. Why we should believe it ended after the cameras disappeared or have any respect for Femen is beyond me. You certainly have not helped her cause, except by probably editing out the even more moronic or implausible stuff.
That isn't their past, this is past month, LOL. Even with this heavy edit, she comes off as totally lost and foolish.
I dare you to download the whole thing- as you promised to - because that is not the "full interview" as you labeled it, and I'm quite sure the rest is even more ridiculous, and that is why you are hiding it.
stevenleser
(32,886 posts)Stuff like when the phone rings and she says "hello" is edited out. None of the interview itself is edited out.
On edit: everything you wrote is untrue. You assert it like the rest of femens detractors because you don't like their methods so you latch onto whatever you can to discredit them. It's not unlike MLK and Malcolm X fans attacking each other for disagreements about process. It's distracting bullshit that hurts the cause.
bettyellen
(47,209 posts)didn;t do your homework and come off like a lovestruck schoolboy. That man did not come out of nowhere and start acting bossy out of the blue, he has a long history with Ina and then the group- she says he sparked it- and they had a relationship up to three four weeks ago. It's on their web site. And links are all over this thread, to interviews she gave this week- so maybe you should have taken some notes, so you'd realize she was snowing you.
You really think starting a feminist organization when you 1) don't know what the patriarchy is 2) don't know what you want to do, or how to do it - so you need a man to tell you ALL of this? And then you let him tell you what to do is laudable - or even plausible? How so, Steve? WHo starts an organization with NO sense of purpose? LOL. I know 3rd graders who can talk about issues with more clarity and conviction. And they know how to source help and get things done too!
Even if her tale were credible, she sounds like a fucking idiot. Even with you restating her word salad for her, all she knows how to do is repeat a few buzzwords. And your recording cuts off mid thought, so it does not sound complete. In prior interviews, she claims has a long history working projects with this guy and this partership transformed into Femen. Now she claims it was started without him, and implies that they somehow broke from him after five years- when exactly was that? They were using his beating three weeks ago for PR purposes on their web site, so they claimed he was still with them then.

I'm surprised they didn't try to ditch him a year ago or during the filming. If he wasn't running it, then it would have been easy.
I think it's exactly how she explained it before- they solicit donors and do sexy photo ops. With women they have cast and are paid to be thin and pretty. It's no surprise that they showcase the most conventionally sexy and thin women. Or that they are doing it for sponsorships. She has admitted both, on the record.

(110,159 posts)but, why i get pissed the most is the women are making fools of themselves allowing the men to objectify them and focus on teh boobs and ignore anything the women are saying (if they would only have a cause and say something). in all the conversations, it has never been about their issue, or even about the reasons this type of activism is harmful to the cause of women. but.... all about the boobs. only the boobs. these women reinforce that they are a body part and without voice.
that what pisses me off the most. and they know it. they know damn well what they are doing, and how it does nothing but hurt womens cause.

(110,159 posts)women are suppose to follow this woman? take her seriously.
that is a HORRIBLE excuse. HORRIBLE. it is such a bad excuse, it literally is NO excuse at all.
sitting here laughing my ass off
hey, i had no interest in reading the whole thing. so whatever she said?... wasnt much interested in the first place. certainly not interested now.
i guess it will be stevens job to coddler her, create her as victim, so we all feel sorry for her.
what was that inna???? calling other feminists a bunch of nasty names??? am i remembering right? cause i really do not put a lot of effort contorting to lies and greed, and manipulation.
bettyellen
(47,209 posts)moronic stuff, darn! But it's such a puff piece, there's no doubt this is exactly what happened.
None of the challenges to the veracity of her other stories are brought up- not one. And he swallows the new story- that they dumped that guy last year- whole. Even though their own website has a story about him from a few weeks ago.
She has cuckolded our top reporter, LOL. He allowed all her lies to stand and sat there with a smile on his face.

Which is it?

(32,886 posts)Its interesting you keep bringing up their breasts. That's the only thing you see. That's the entire problem.
You're out to get them because of that. You're hopelessly biased against them.

had the idea to start Femen all on their own is the story, Steve? Or were the puppet strings always part of the design?
Did Inna lie to you, poor fella? Well, you should have done some reading, LOL.
"VS: To put it bluntly, we moved to Kiev to do
AH: To create a movement here.
VS: Were typical conquests of the capital. Like New York gets 10,000 people a day who want to live there. Thats exactly how we ended up in Kiev.
AH: We followed a standard planeverything happens in the capital, through the capital. Everything is here.
VS: All the worlds events happen either in New York or Los Angeles. They dont even happen in Washington. Its normal.
We came here with a very precise goal: to start FEMEN. We always had plenty of fantasies and we always worked on those kinds of projects before FEMEN. Now we dont do anything else. Now we have money. They give us money. We have sponsorsrich people not connected to politics. "

Funny you IMAGINED me talking about the tits, Steve. As funny as the pathetic tale of woe Inna tells while pretending to be empowered by the tactic she learned from Viktor. They are making fools of men like you all over the world.

(47,209 posts)she used to be used and abused up until.. a year (or five weeks) ago.... But NOW she is here to educate us! By spewing the same crap she did a year ago, LOL. Apparently, the brutal pig leader was right about everything. Meet the new Femen, same as the old Femen.

I guess we know now which they are.
Either way, it never had anything to do with politics or religion or highlighting the plight of oppressed people.

(47,209 posts)Their rhetoric is idiotic, the results, not so much... they are mercenaries, and I really do enjoy how they make drooling idiots out of men who can normally think critically. But I don't think they are doing it for my amusement.
