the President needs to seriously consider the opportunities he's handing to his opposition. After 5 years in office he has to grow a clue.

IRS, Benghazi, and the other faux scandals republicans were poutraged about. But in this case, there is strong public opinion against another war (or however Kerry wants to frame it). If Obama proceeds with a unilateral strike...without UN saction, without NATO backing, without Congressional AUMF, and without a case for national security...then the House may find public opinion backing them.

depress enough dem votes while invigorating sufficient numbers of indies and GOPers to fortify their position in the House while taking the senate. Obama's political capital would be non-existent.

If, however, the war goes forward and something disastrous happens, i.e. a greater regional conflagration, significant US casualties, an errant bomb on civilians, a WMD attack, a significant terrorist attack then no one will be able to save the President, even the Dems would be forced to usher him out.

It appears that he doesn't think laws apply to an imperial president. Bush wasn't reined in, Obama might be.

8. I do believe that passing this to Congress was a political necessity for Obama.

Anything Obama proposes or does not propose gives ammunition to those who ultimately have one goal; to see Obama gone. After 5 years in the Presidency he lives under a constant assault by those who cannot accept his presence in office. Now the heat is on his critics to leave or stay in the kitchen.
