First 3 pages of Latest Threads here avg. 5% threads on Syria or War (possibly a long rant)

So what does that mean? Is this the primary focus of the National Conversation? Says WHO?
I am sure if I read every thread here and not just titles, the number would go up...
It's just an observation, but nowhere on these pages did I see NSA in a thread title either...
And yes I saw lots of other important newsy, local, national and international stories...but maybe only a collective handful referring to the Sequester, Economy, Poverty, Protests, Occupy...etc

Do you see what's going on? The Govt and the propaganda machine are very skilled in telling US what THEY think is important and what we SHOULD be talking about, If I had the time and patience today, I would go through EVERY Homepage of EVERY News outlet and count the number of stories on the front page and to what they were referring. I'd love to make you all a lovely pie chart and show you how the Conversation has been REDIRECTED by the PTB very obviously over the past three weeks... They didn't LIKE that we were learning more about how they watch us and how we were getting uppity about our 'freedoms' and all that... so they moved the camera lens to another middle eastern country (who has been in flux for over a year now and 'atrocities' have happened before now but we ignored them.)And they pointed at this country and said,

"See! THESE guys over here have NO freedom, not like YOU! We need to go over there and give them some of our goooood shit...FREEDOM!!!" and "God bless the USA!" and "Moral imperative" cuz you know we are soooooo much better off than those poor confused Arab nations. We have to show them how to be like US! Go TEAM!

So then we little sheeple are supposed to get all full of angst about these poor nations who don't have OUR freedoms and feel bad for them and of course we have to do the right thing...
And we forget to keep holding these guys accountable.
We forget that our country is crumbling all over, and we are under constant surveillance and suspicion from our own benevolent leaders, and that there's more questions to be asking...and we get brainwashed by our news anchors into eventually helping bang the drums of war... lather, rinse, repeat.

I think we need to wake up and help turn the National Conversation BACK to our own domestic issues. This could undermine the Call for War faster than the constant speculation and heated debate over the UN and details of chemical weapons and war strategy.
But that's just me. I could be very naieve about these things, after all I just hang out here.

edit to add - Why are you telling us what to discuss? Why the NSA? What about health care, hunger, homelessness and jobs. I think those and the possibility of a war are more important.

I guess the memo said to move on to the next outrage-of-the-day.

We've beat the NSA story to death with a stick for months, but war drums start up relatively recent and we discuss the upcoming war? Of course we will.

But it did and it only hurt the poor and working class, so no real stink was made.

Your second point reminds me of a song.

Why don't we liberate these United States,
We're the ones that need it worst.
Let the rest of the world help us for a change,
And let's rebuild America first.

Our highways an' bridges are fallin' apart:
Who's blessed an' who has been cursed?
There's things to be done all over the world,
But let's rebuild America first.
