Grayson on Syria WAR Resolution: "I am confident it will be defeated"

Grayson said:

I am confident it will be defeated in the House. That’s not to say we can defeat it by doing nothing. The administration is trying to dominate the discourse here. They’ve scheduled four meetings with Democratic members this week, and they are basically seeing to it that skeptics or opponents don't get any time in front of other members. They feel if they just repeat themselves often enough, they'll be able to prove their case. I don't think it's going to work based on what I’m hearing.

1. OK - Congress Defeats It - What Next?.....

PBO goes it alone and strikes anyway? What kind of blowback will that generate?

Or does PBO say - it is the wishes of the People and Congress and he just stops pushing for it and gets back to the business at hand?

among the most unpopular people in the world right now.

This will be a defining moment in his Presidency. IF he ignores the will of the people, he will go down in history as a President who didn't understand his role as part of a government that believes in the balance of powers.

If he respects Congress' decision, assuming Grayson is right, he will have a good place in history during these times when the Constitution has been so under attack.

And the world would applaud him.

I suspect he does.

Oh, and he doesn't need an "out". Their can be great respect for a man who can walk away with grace.

If the Repugs get a whiff of that - they might vote to support him and his request to strike Syria because they don't want PBO to look good on anything.

Wow - what a dilemma for the Repugs.

Do I vote "Yes" and give him his way where he wins - basically he got what he wanted and he got Congress to go along with him. He looks like a strong and decisive President - yet fair and by the Constitution.

Or do I vote "No" and give him an out - as he respects the decision of Congress - and it is the will of the People - and he respects that and goes with their wishes - an let Americans and the World applaud him.

Hmmmm.......

3. Several Scenarios
Thu Sep 5, 2013, 05:07 PM
Sep 2013

1) He goes ahead and does it anyway.
1a) Congress starts impeachment
1b) Congress whines but does nothing
1c) Congress attempts to defund it.

2) Obama tries again
2a) Immediately
2b) After a near term but new "significant" event

3) Obama attempts to build an international coalition
3a) In the UN and get UN approval to which he declares he doesn't need congressional approval
3b) NATO/Arab League or some other which again will give him cover from needing congress
3c) Either a or b but then returns to congress
3d) C+ going BACK to the UK for another vote.

4) Obama gets another country to do it and we "secretly" fund/support it.

7. It seems unlikely that it will be defeated.

The same political calculations that brought us Iraq are still in play. The real danger here is if you vote to defeat it, and it gets defeated, then Assad kill more children with chemical weapons. You will have ads run against you in your next campaign showing pictures of the dead children that your vote "allowed to happen / caused".

I'll admit that some (R)s will vote against it just because Pres. Obama wants them to vote for it. I will also admit that some (D)s confuse Bush's lies with what is being said now. Even so, I am under the impression that some limited measure will be passed. Not an open ended measure like was asked for by the White House, but something closer to what has already passed Committee in The Senate.
