Republican Presidents always given carte blanche while Democratic Presidents kept on dog leashes

Sick of this shit.

President Clinton tries to pass health care reform and the American public is so infuriated over that they toss the Democrats who had the house majority for 40 years out on their petards and give the GOP total control of congress for the rest of the Clinton presidency. The public murmurs that impeachment of a Democratically elected President of the United States over consensual sex is a bad idea but doesn't really raise a hue and cry with massive protests on the street when the House impeaches their President and the Senate puts on a show trial. Indeed, George W. Bush receives enough votes on election night 2000 in order to be able to steal the election running on a campaign that he will "restore" dignity and honor to the oval office-(remember that slogan of his guys)?

President Carter, an extraordinarily decent and honorable man, is forced to fire his treasury secretary early on in his term due to faux Republican outrage. His pronouncement on the need to become energy independent is derided and Reagan gets a hearty approving laugh from the American people when he removes the solar panels that President Carter installed. There are other examples of Carter being treated like a dog but I'm too young to remember them. I'm sure older DU members know the mistreatment that Carter experienced more.

President Clinton had it pretty bad up to and including being accused of murder but President Obama? Let's see:
1. He tries to pass health insurance reform to save the lives of millions of people. Simple measures like children being able to stay on their parents insurance plans until age 26 and pre-existing conditions not being a disqualifier for receiving medical coverage enrage the American people. An effort to ensure that fewer Americans DIE leads to the creation of a racist tea party that sweeps in one of the biggest Republican house majorities ever in 2010.
2. He is accused of being a Muslim who wasn't even born in the U.S.
3. He is accused of being a Nazi.
4. It is alleged that he didn't really go to Columbia university or write his 2 memoirs.
5. Michelle Obama is assailed daily.
6. The House tea party majority for the 1st time in the nation's history brings the country to the brink of debt default in 2011, throwing the economic recovery badly off course. Joe 6-pack is too busy screwing the girl down the street to care.
7. It took only the most sophisticated co-ordinated targeted brilliant re-election campaign in history to get the President re-elected when a clown was running against him.
8. Is not afforded any of the traditional respect that a President gets, mostly because he is African-American and, as the Zimmermann case, showed most of the nation is still racist anyway.

The nation was losing 600,000 jobs a week when President Obama took over and we now have a Dow 15,000 and unemployment lowered from 10.7% in 2010 to 7.4% today with possibly an even better jobs outlook coming tomorrow but all we heard during the 2012 campaign was how Americans thought Romney would be a far better economic manager than Obama but weren't voting for him due to other things. Hello? Are you idiotic?

Meanwhile, President Reagan gets to:
1. Keep Americans held hostage in Iran until he assumes office to gain political benefit.
2. Gets to engage in the Iran-Contra scandal with just a slight dip in approval ratings and no real talk of impeachment.
3. Gets to go to war in Grenada to distract attention from the Beirut embassy bombings with no real criticism.
4. Is totally ignorant of the Aids epidemic and heartless towards its victims.

The list goes on.

As for the Bushes, no need to go into their crimes but 43 gets complete control of congress for 6 years, starts an illegal war based on false intelligence, leaks the name of a CIA agent to advance his regime's ends, outsources American port security to Dubai Ports world, etc., etc., etc. The list goes on and on as we all know but yet his party sweeps back into the majority of state governorships in 2010 and gets a sweeping House majority in 2010 the likes of which has never been seen. All is forgiven....

So, what's the deal? Are Americans really as stupid as those yahoos that Christine Pelosi interviewed in her 2008 documentary on Red America that were all gung-ho on Mccain/Palin?

It's a sad sad country where a war-monger asshole gets 70% approval for most of his Presidency, where a senile dude who knows nothing about policy gets 70% approval for most of his presidency while decent hard-working caring men like Presidents Carter, Clinton and Obama are treated like dogs even by their own bases and muddle along with, according to Gallup today, just a 45% approval rating.

I guess it is better to be strong and wrong than weak and right like President Clinton said at the DNC in 2004 in Boston.

President Obama, is afforded the least respect of any president in my lifetime.

America deserves whatever it gets. Go elect Rand Paul or Ted Cruz in 2016 and live in the apparent utopia that those yahoos will apparently be bringing in. Almost at the point of being done with the whole thing.

Republicanism is considered to be the "Daddy" party....maybe a bit harsh at times, but necessary to keep the willful "children" in line..

Democrats are seen as the dreamers... the "Mommy" party who will cut the children some slack and maybe even HELP the children..

Democratic leadership, when elected, are seen as mere "placeholders" until the rightful "owners" ....republicans ...can swoop back in and "restore order"..

Media (for a very long time) has played this little tune..over and over and over..

--at least the whacko social issue people. Business elite not so much. Democratic presidents since LBJ have had contempt for their base, which has been overwhelmingly AGAINST the "Third Way." The PTB prefer Republicans, but will put up with Dems who kowtow to them sufficiently, so this has a powerful effect on the MSM.

the very effective propaganda arm of the Republican Party, and why even most Democrats are not really liberal any more--because they need access to the legal bribery of campaign funds, and the legal bribery of cushy jobs after they leave office. Oh, and both partiies's members also get cushy jobs for their family members even while they are in office, as long as they do the bidding of big money.
