Apparently, it looks as though I was wrong.

Last edited Mon Sep 9, 2013, 04:07 PM - Edit history (1)

Just for background, for anyone who followed my postings throughout the George Zimmerman trial, I felt as though Zimmerman was beyond any reasonable doubt guilty of second degree murder, that he racially profiled Trayvon Martin, that he was steaming angry that night, that he was the initial aggressor in the physical confrontation between him and Trayvon, that his story to police made no sense whatsoever, and his shooting was unjustified and illegal.

However, after Zimmerman's acquittal, I was somewhat dismissive over some people's concerns that Zimmerman would act out violently again with his weapon. I thought that was just hyperbole, overreaction and unlikely. There would be no way that Zimmerman would be that stupid to act, well, stupidly with his gun ever again, after nearly having lost his freedom over his past actions.

But it appears as though I was wrong. Unfortunately:

usually end up on the run or in prison within a few years.

Zimmerman is a hothead who drinks and loves his guns. This is not a combination guaranteed to keep him on the right side of the law. He will end up in prison, probably sooner rather than later.

Our mistake was thinking he would behave like a reasonable person would after just escaping a murder conviction. At least it doesn't sound like anyone was shot this time. Maybe they can get him for a gun crime.

and hope people learn life lessons from their experiences.

It could be Zimmerman is more deeply disturbed than you (and many others) thought. And there's no way to know what impact his wife's recent decision to divorce him has had on his psyche.

That said, I took the opposite tact from you: I never thought he'd learn from his experience, that his ego-driven picture of himself would cause him to act out even more in the future, so his recent troubles are in line with what I imagined he would do. I wish I had been wrong, largely because I want to see the best from my fellow man, and because I hold out hope for improvement for all people. Zimmerman, unfortunately, seems incapable of self-reflection.

George Zimmerman's wife says he threatened her, father with gun

Published September 09, 2013
Associated Press

ORLANDO, Fla. – George Zimmerman's wife has called police to her father's house, saying the former neighborhood watch volunteer who was acquitted of murder threatened her with a gun.

Lake Mary Police Chief Steve Bracknell says Shellie Zimmerman called police shortly after 2 p.m. Monday.

Bracknell says Zimmerman hasn't been arrested and officers are at the house trying to determine what happened.

In the divorce petition, Shellie Zimmerman says she and her husband separated a month after Zimmerman was acquitted of any crime for fatally shooting Trayvon Martin last July.

Just had the exact same thoughts reading about him apparently threatening his estranged wive and her father with a gun. I thought he was clearly guilty of second degree murder or at least manslaughter in killing Travon Martin, but I was skeptical he'd kill or shoot someone else. I was more worried about the next George Zimmerman. Based on his recent actions? Yeah, he appears to actually be unhinged and stupid enough to shoot someone else.

a normal person would have some remorse, even if his bullshit "self-defense" story was true. he never showed an iota of remorse, so i knew he would be emboldened by the acquittal. not surprised at all.

I was thinking he would go the OJ route and do something eventually to get himself in trouble. Being his own worst enemy.

How stupid do you have to be to pull a gun on your wife and her father after getting off from murdering a kid named Trayvon Martin?

It was quite disturbing.

I'm glad that you can admit any misguidance. It was only a matter of time and now that his wife and her father will not press charges, it will free him to commit more heinous acts.

I just wanna know:

What does George Zimmerman have on people? What is it about him that makes people want to give him the benefit of the doubt or go to bat for him?

People have lied for him, cheated for him, even gone to jail for him. Even the police covered for him. And I don't care what anyone says, I believe that there was an entire network of state officials who deliberately withheld or suppressed information, ignored evidence, or dismissed anything that would have led to the questioning of Zimmerman's state of mind or character. (The greatest examples being the molestation charges brought by his cousin and the fact that he had been arrested before for assaulting a police office and domestic violence, not to mention the fact that he was taking a number of prescription drugs.)

By the way, check out this bag of pills the cop in this pic is carrying:

Between the Zimmerman apologists and those of us (like me, like I think the OP was saying) that said loudly that he was guilty of murder, should absolutely be in jail, but weren't quite convinced he was unhinged/stupid/self destructive enough that he'd "do it again" Count me convinced now, though.

He always wants to be in control. Unlike most conditional perpetrators of DV or violence who lose control of their temper, he is always calmer after he has acted out. IOW his need for violence has been sated. These are very dangerous people. They are the kind of DV perps who are more inclined to murder their spouses. Trayvon was just a substitute for a domestic partner. The cops talked about his demeanor after the murder. They observed him to be calm and level headed. Pythons are less mobile after they have swallowed their prey. That doesn't make them cute.

You live in violence fantasy arcade in your mind. Then you finally live that fantasy and kill a kid, but it doesn't make you feel like you thought it would. Your wife dumps you. The notoriety and money are drying up because your 15 minutes of media fame is over. You are a very dangerous and unstable fellow who should be off the street before you kill again.
