I was poor and had great grades, but didn't have direction and guidance. I still ended up with a couple of two year degrees and a handful of certifications, but when I was fresh out of school, I would loved to feel like l had the option to go to higher education.

Stupid and frankly irresponsible given that mobility practically requires a college degree now.

It was a code line. The comfortable white audience got he wasn't talking about them or their kids. What was snobbish to them was the Ivy league liberal telling us "we" can all go to school. Clearly they all "know" that wasting money on them minorities who are better off as ditch diggers is only a thing that a liberal snob would think. As one person told me to my face "Obama only cares about black people". They see everything he says as code for programs targeting blacks. When Obama says he wants everyone to get a college degree, they hear Obama wants to push whites out of colleges to get blacks into colleges with free tuition paid by the government. An education they think is a waste because they know black people mostly are naturally not as smart as whites. What Santorum said was a really nice way to say something much, much more offensive. However having talked to a rethug or two in my time, the clappers in the room understood exactly what he was hinting at.

What about uneducated white people like Rush's listeners? It's reverse snobbery

They think Obama is a snob like all those Ivy league liberals because they think certain minorities can actually all be educated. An uneducated white person is to them likely mentally superior to most minorities. The later sounding well rather snobbish to me. That some people are just better than others by birth. Rethugs are always redefining words to make themselves the victims. In today's Rethug party if you think people are equal and deserve equal access you are a snob, if on the other hand you are an uneducated Rush listener that thinks you are naturally superior to other people, you are a a victim of a liberal government system that constantly supports people of lower quality than you to keep you down. You're are a victim of their snobbish policies. That to them isn't snobbish or bigotry that's just a fact. Confused by their "logic"

or not, really depends on the individual and situation. One can be a snob about most anything if one chooses to do so.
