Ralph Nader to speak on grassroots activism at UC Merced March 12

The UC Merced Democratic Club said Ralph Nader will speak on campus from 6 to 9 p.m. March 12 about "Grassroots Activism in the 21st Century."

The longtime consumer advocate who's run for President several times will also be present at a book-signing and a half-hour news conference.

In a news release, the UC Merced Democratic club said it has been working on campaigns and doing voter registration with their peers. A recent Fresno Bee story showed that three of the five lowest counties for voter registration were in the Central Valley. The campus group said it hopes the Nader event will help them branch out into the community to reach more locals and raise the level of registered voters.

At the Democratic State Convention, the local chapter was awarded chapter of the year by the California College Democrats, a first for the Central Valley, according to the news release.
