(2,952 posts)And his little band of coastal moonbats to the east in Daytona....the radio stations here are all locally owned....4 channels....WNDB1150 is talk radio....all conservative drivel....WHOG 95.7 is album rock, but it has a definite righty slant....93.1 is country, no need to expound here....the other is top 40/r-n-b....no news or talk....
All the Orlando stations seem to be owned by clear channel.....

(58,724 posts)Isn't the state pretty evenly split between Dem/Rep/Ind?
cali
(114,904 posts)How liberal? Democrats have a veto proof majorities in both houses- and these are liberal dems. There is only one republican is state wide office. Vermont has a viable third party- the VT Progressive Party and its represented in both the House and the Senate.
And republicans here are by and large of the liberal new england type.
oberliner
(58,724 posts)Vermont had a Republican governor for most of the 2000's
Jim Douglas was re-elected three times.
He beat his non-Republican challengers fairly easily (well over 50 percent of the vote).
I think I had it right. It's pretty much an even three-way split between Democrats, Republicans, and Independents.

(406 posts)Philly. ALL talk radio is conservative here, not a single liberal voice on terrestrial radio, even though its a yard core blue city.

(20,166 posts)but there's a so-called political cartoonist in our local paper who's a right-winger. His drawings/caricatures are sloppy and amateurish and usually push the standard conservative claptrap they spew on FOX.
It's hard to get angry at his cartoons, though, because they're so lame. Every once in a blue moon, the cosmos will align in such a way where I actually agree with one of his scribblings, like when he took some potshots at Bush in the waning years of his regime. But even those were ham-fisted and about as politically clever as a Family Circus comic.

(24,412 posts)Local stations also pick up Limbaugh, Hannity, and some nationally syndicated teabagger lady (Diane Loesch?) in the afternoon as well. It's all the same tripe and if you've heard it one place you'll hear the exact same junk from another one. One of our AM stations used to have Michael Smerconish, who isn't a conservative hack by any means, and his was about the only political radio shows I was ever able to listen to on a daily basis. I can't tolerate Limbaugh or any of the others for more than two seconds and I don't even bother to try. Most of our talk radio here has been systematically replaced by sports talk shows, which I have absolutely no interest in. When I'm driving around (which I do a lot of in my job), I find that popping in a Michael Moore, Bill Maher, or Al Franken CD and/or burning some liberal podcast programs onto a CD to listen to helps a lot to ease my stress living in a right-wing regressive state (though in a fairly progressive area)

(46,179 posts)I don't listen to talk radio of any kind.
Really, since the availability of cheap mp3 players, I don't listen to radio at all except to wake me up in the morning.

(58,724 posts)That's the only time I use a radio.

(46,179 posts)If I want music while driving, that's when I use my mp3 player.
Then I don't have to listen to vapid, annoying djs who think they're witty, as well as avoiding commercials.

(43,181 posts)This douchbag Steve Kane and his cohort Brian Craig.
They have an odd obsession over both race baiting (Kane, who is white, once insisted on using n___r, claiming it was no more offensive than calling someone "right wing" and gay issues (which is curious, because Craig strikes me very much as being a self-hating closet case).
Oh, we also have Joyce Kaufman, who was once tapped to be then Congressman (and disgraced war criminal) Allen West (R-Crazytown)'s chief of staff until a speech of hers at a tea party rally came to light where she proclaimed, "If ballots don't work, bullets will!" She claimed that she was taken out of context and that you needed to see the entire speech to understand what she actually meant by that. I then watched the entire unedited 9 minute speech and understood what she really meant: That if you don't like the result of an election, you should threaten armed revolution.

(10,000 posts)..which I suppose is equally true of Limbaugh, Michael Savage, and the rest. If you don't have controversy, then nobody listens. Look at the ratings on Democracy Now! or NPR. The problem is that we now have a generation who have confused entertaining radio for effective public policy.

(2,667 posts)There are a handful of local for-profit stations and every single one of them (Even the University's student station often echos the right wing messaging) is a voice of ignorance, prejudice, and the war on the working person.

(3,709 posts)Matt Walsh. He follows Limbaugh and rehashes whatever Rush has talked about. I have been forced a few times to listen to him and he makes my blood boil. He's a libertarian conservative and worships Rand Paul, who is a frequent guest. There are other idiots in Lexington, KY, but this guy is the worst.
