In NYS, you still need grounds for divorce, except if you have lived separate and apart for at least one year pursuant to a separation agreement. So my guess is that they are already negotiating the separation. The announcement of a divorce may wait until they are able to file for divorce under NY law. In the meantime, you will see that they are no longer living together but probably no formal announcement of the separation.
