Well, the poll did not ask for the reasons for the shifts. pampango Sep 2013 #3

And repubs in favor of a strike on Syria fell from 35% to 21% from one week to the next.

Among Democrats the change was much less dramatic. Those opposed to strikes increased from 48% to 53%, but those in favor also increased from 29% to 35%.

In week 1 those opposed to strikes was D - 48%, R - 40%. By week 2 republicans were more opposed: R - 70%, D - 53%.
And support for strikes flipped, too. Week 1: R - 35%, D - 29%. By week 2d: D - 35%, R - 21%.

Because "our guy" is in charge of the bombs, drones, and cowboy foreign policy.

It might be an oversimplification to say that people in both parties shifted solely because Obama was "their guy" or "the other sides's guy".

After all, Obama was "ours" or "theirs" in week 1 as well.
