(68,644 posts)Or is it just the general anger most of us have with the NRA and since this was a shooting, etc.?
It's too soon to know if these guns were what reports say they are, if they were military or police issue, or stolen.
In other words, it's possible that the NRA has nothing to do with it.
Not trying to defend NRA, not a member, yada yada.
For different reasons, like contributing so much to the reelection of Republicans and fighting sensible legislation, I can agree with you on these things.
Fuck the NRA!

Considering how eager the NRA fucks are to make CCW and open carry as easy as possible for as many as possible. I for one am tired of hearing "criminals will always be able to get guns" as an excuse for not improving our laws at all. (And yeah, what about non-criminals? Only "good guys" get carry permits? Apparently not.)

(21,771 posts)Using this so called 'logic' nothing should be a crime. I agree with you, it is complete non-sense.

(68,644 posts)What people need are mandatory safety lessons.
I don't see how his CCW impacted today's shooting or the 2010 discharge.
MH1
(17,608 posts)I don't see how his CCW impacted today's shooting either, seeing as the CCW was in Texas and he apparently was carrying a false id today.
But it shows that people who get CCWs are not all "good guys".
NYC_SKP
(68,644 posts)"Stupid guy" is confirmed by his careless discharge of a firearm.
Obviously a "bad guy", but no way to know at this point if there was any cause to consider him unfit.
Sometimes people's history doesn't foretell what they'll do if they snap.
Sad sad thing, today.
MH1
(17,608 posts)do you think he should have had a CCW permit?
NYC_SKP
(68,644 posts)And the guns not returned or a CCW furnished unless he undergo a comprehensive gun safety course.
Actually, I would advocate for laws requiring such a course for the purchase of any gun or ammo or, certainly, before a CCW is issued to a person.

(17,608 posts)p.s. I'm not against all gun ownership, just think there needs to be some rules.

(12,882 posts)if the 2nd amendment champions are even aware there's other amendments too? Imagine if they're intensity of fervor were to be applied to OTHER amendments that are trampled and disregarded.

hack89
(39,171 posts)hence the lack of drama over them. If the "fuck guns" advocates respected the 2A like they respected the other amendments we wouldn't be having this conversation.

(8,254 posts)The NRA, like the GOP, is dying off,,,,,,,,
One Old White fart at a time.........
their membership numbers are shrinking if adjusted for population growth,,,,,
just like the number of households that own a gun, has for the last 30 years.....
We may not get reasonable gun control this year, but it is coming sooner than later,,,,,,

(8,254 posts)Make all Gun owners more accountable for what happens with their guns!,,,,,,
All Gun Owners should be Bonded annually which would be figured on the calculated Risk that the gun owner presents to the rest of society!

(39,171 posts)we always know who the owner is - he is the dead guy lying next to the gun. Lanza's gun was registered.

hack89
(39,171 posts)how about a firearms ID card to own and purchase guns and ammo?
There are too many unregistered guns in America that will remain unregistered. Concentrate on the owners.
Cryptoad
(8,254 posts)I am sure that the bonding of gun owners and guns would include an ID .
hack89
(39,171 posts)you cannot hold legal gun owners liable for the criminal or negligent actions of others. It would never hold up in court.
What is your plan for illegal guns and illegal gun owners? There will be millions of both to contend with.
Cryptoad
(8,254 posts)bonding gun owners to be accountable for their actions with their guns not for the action of others....
Insurance and Bonding companies are very good at calculating risk.
Anything that will make for more accountability of legal gun owners and their actions will over time reduce numbers of illegal guns to be had by thugs and crazies
WE have a long row to hoe!

hack89
(39,171 posts)I have liability insurance - when I told my agent about my safe full of guns, he said it was irrelevant because the risk was so small.
The people you need to worry about won't register their guns nor will they pay to be bonded. The notion that you can make gun ownership too expensive is stupid. They will simply carry illegally - think how many uninsured drivers there are.
Cryptoad
(8,254 posts)but registering guns to owner along with tuff penalties will reduce the number of illegal guns on the market...... today most illegal guns are purchased by straw-man in States with little of no gun control than transported to places that have big markets for illegal guns.. all illegal guns were at some point and time purchased legally. There is where a reduction can take place.
as far as bonding,,, yes for most reasonable sane people with guns being bonded for lets say a million dollars would be cheap but not so cheap for those with higher risk. and in the last ten years..... there has become very few uninsured drivers in my state. Tuff laws can make a difference
What your solution?
hack89
(39,171 posts)Quadruple the ATF budget and seriously crack down on the illegal gun trade.
Stiffen penalties for using a gun in a crime - use a gun and go to prison for a very long time.
Do not register guns. Forget the bonding
Cryptoad
(8,254 posts)when without any type of registration you have no idea of what is where with whom!
Its call pissing in the wind!
There can be no effective gun control without registration.
That is the same ole NRA shit we have had for years that is proven not to work doesnt work.
,,,and you call my suggestion stupid,,,,,,,,geeez.
hack89
(39,171 posts)you crack down on the people doing the trafficking. Same for guns.
There are over a hundred million unregistered guns in America. And guns can be easily smuggled into the country so if you have to know where every gun is in order to stop trafficking then you are fucked before you even start.

(18,318 posts)like universal b.g checks and better support of the legal system so adjudicated mental incompetents' records are all in the b.g. Data banks as soon as the findings are entered in proceedings.
The NRA is not the only show in town, and in any case will not respond as you wish, but will incorporate you outlook effectively into their propaganda. They've been doing it for years, up to and including royalty payments to anti-gun cartoonists for repub rights in NRA magazines.

(14,807 posts)There is nothing they could do with my idea. Actually...I think it would really get to those that support liberal gun laws seeing those names in their emails over and over and over again.
Eleanors38
(18,318 posts)Expanded b.g. Checks are plausible. The Independent Firearms Owners Association (IFOA) supports Manchin-Toomey, and most 2A advocates in DU support universal checks.
But the measure must be advocated with a wide base, including strong 2A defenders, and in a respectful, un-extreme manner.
