Story update- Police: Cop shot unarmed man in Charlotte 10 times

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Investigators say an unarmed man was shot 10 times by a Charlotte police officer.

Police said Monday that officer Randall Kerrick fired 12 times at 24-year-old Jonathan A. Ferrell early Saturday while responding to a breaking and entering call. Ten of the bullets hit the former Florida A&M University football player.

Officers say Ferrell had been in a car wreck and sought help at a nearby house. A woman called authorities when she didn't recognize the man.

Kerrick has been charged with voluntary manslaughter. He is out on bond and expected in court Tuesday.

They soon develop a shoot first mentality... I can't say I blame them one little bit.. I blame Society for allowing guns to be rampant throughout this country..

How did they know it was a break in? Just showed up and started mowing down the place with bullets?

I just can't get my brain around this shooting. The poor guy had an accident, if I put myself in his place, my heart would be pounding, my brain would be in overdrive. I can see myself pounding on the door of the first house I saw looking for help. Would I be treated differently, probably, because I'm white and elderly. Is that morally okay, no! Why would they shoot the guy 10 times? Jesus, this is just wrong, wrong, wrong.

I am a single woman who lives alone and if some strange man were to bang on my door at 2:30 in the morning, I would probably also call 911.

9. From all the reports I've read, no one called in a breaking and entering.

In the middle of the night, with someone pounding on ther door, the homeowner hit their panic button on the alarm panel and called 911 to report someone pounding on their door. I see nothing wrong with this. It would appear the police dispatch drew their own conclusions and reported it to the responding officers as a B&E.

so much for living in the center of a small town - they wanted to go to the bathroom, I should have let them in though, they ended up peeing on my azaleas, I had to water them down after they left. So there I am 3 am in the late fall, watering my shrubs at 3 AM, and then I had to get up and go to work at 6, ha ha . They did seranade me and sing to me and declare their undying love for me. Truly smashed. I did have a woman knock on my door when she was in an accident, I asked who they wanted me to call, did not open the door - that is why they have doors. i talked to her out a window. So I made the call and they sat on my porch and waited for someone to come and get them. There was a chair out there. But I remember my parents letting people into their house when there were accidents, for some reason, there were a lot of accidents at the corner of their house. They cot used to it

Unarmed and standing in the vestibule of the building in which he lived -- shot 41 times by the NYPD.

12. I blame the NYPD's poor marksmanship in their gun laws.

For some stupid reason, the NYPD requires about the same amount of force to pull a trigger, as it would take to curl a bowling ball with one finger.

13lbs.

Try picking up 13lbs with just your index finger... Trust me, it is not easy.

That aside, they should not be armed in the first place.

. . . I have shot large caliber handguns, and you're right -- it takes a significant amount of force to pull a trigger. And I agree, too -- they shouldn't be armed at all. They have been WAY out of control for far too long. I mean, the very idea that an officer would fire a gun in Times Square -- with perhaps the SOLE exception being the case of a sniper who was, himself, shooting -- simply boggles the mind.
