I don't want to get away from the debate about whether or not Aaron Alexis should have been able to have access to a weapon, but there's another question about our privatizing our military and shifting the burden to vetting to a for profit industry.
Contracting Careers
Big Opportunities. Big Responsibilities. Make an IMPACT.
Abusing history:
"Civilians have been an integral part of the U.S. Army since the Revolutionary War.
In 1776 the Board of War and Ordnance was established with the responsibility of equipping and dispatching troops; maintaining personnel records and disbursing funds. Five members of the Continental Congress, several clerks and a paid secretary Richard Peters, the first Army Civilian comprised the Board. Subsequently the Continental Army hired Civilians for driving, crafts, carpentry, and laborer jobs.
Today Civilians have skills that are crucial to the support of military operations and provide a full complement to the militarys occupational specialties.
Play a vital role. Use your talents and skills.
Real opportunities. Important work. Army Civilian Service. Join us."

(9,120 posts)I fear the trouble with private contracting/outsourcing national security will be lost in the outcry for much needed gun regulation.
Don't know which I fear most at this point.
