George Noory has been handling most of the hosting duties since then although Art still fills in occasionally.

Used to love listening to this show. One of my favorites was a caller who claimed he was in a small aircraft flying in to Area 51 airspace. It ended about like you'd expect (not well).

I used to make the long drive from Austin to L.A. And I would always find myself driving through the most desolate part of the country when his show came on in the wee hours.

Needless to say, some of those shows were down right creepy. Which didn't help when I was the only driver for many miles in either direction.

Some interesting background/thoughts on Art Bell...

Although I tuned out on Bell during the Clinton Impeachment when his Right-Wing tendencies were utterly clear, my brother has filled me in on the Art Bell saga:

- during 1999, Bell briefly left the show due to allegations of child molestation. At the same time, Bell's son was molested by a schoolteacher who had HIV and exposed Bell's son.

- Bell "retired" due to "back problems" in 2000, returned in 2001, retired again and returned again several times between 2001-2003. Finally settling on George Noory, an ex-Naval Intelligence officer, as a replacement host after several various fill-in hosts. Bell finally returned to host the show on weekends only.

- During 2006, Bell's wife died suddenly in her sleep. Bell remarried less than 6 months later to a Filipino woman 40 years his junior. Bell moved to the Phillipines. No word on whatever happened to Bell's son.

My brother tells me that Bell's Right-wing tendencies have only gotten more overt and acute.
