The gun problem in the U.S. isn't guns,it's video games and lack of mental health for the shooters. It's anything but guns,no one questions why these massive killings are unique to the U.S.,but it's definitely not our guns.

(6,342 posts)They have a militia system.
So they don't have to worry about a military force and a government abusing power. The citizenry is the army.

(22,871 posts)over in a New York second by any neighboring conventional army, you're making the right wing anti government argument that an armed citizenry is a protection against our government forces and that's as crazy as anything Ted Nugent would say.

(6,342 posts)What other country in the world has over 1,000 overseas military bases? None. How much money do we spend on defense? More than the next 10 countries combined.
Oh yeah...that's right I forgot. We are Americans! We are #1. We are the world police! We are exceptional!

(22,871 posts)from their government and outside forces,I pointed out that that is a ridiculous argument worthy of Ted Nugent.Answering with a critique of U.S. foreign policy is pure deflection and laughable.

(6,342 posts)My point is that the citizenry is the army and therefore don't have to worry about abuse of power. If we had that here and the government wants to go to war to Syria and the people don't want it. We can tell the government to fuck off. We don't have to beg our congressmen to not go to war.

(22,871 posts)would decide foreign policy? Do you imagine armed citizens threatening the House and Senate. They don't fear your guns or fantasies of armed insurrection, they fear your vote.
davidn3600
(6,342 posts)You seem completely stuck on the idea of armed revolution. Im not talking about armed revolution. Not in any shape or form.
If any government is ordering the people into a war that the people don't want to fight, they can stop the war by laying down the gun and refusing to fight if the military is mainly a militia style system. When you have large standing armies, this is not possible to do. The government can then go to war with or without the support of the people.
