California will not tighten medical marijuana laws this year – AB 604 killed by cops

California’s law enforcement leaders have again killed a bill to more tightly regulate medical marijuana in the Golden State.

The bill faced staunch opposition from California law enforcement leaders who believe marijuana is not medicine and seek to repeal Proposition 215.

“I’d definitely call this ‘medical marijuana thing’ an epidemic that is infecting our society,” states a California Narcotic Officer’s training guide from 2011. “This ‘infectious spillover’ is even affecting us (law enforcement). Also think about the fact that the next generation of law enforcement in this state has grown up thinking marijuana is a ‘medicine’.”

Diane Goldstein, spokesperson for Law Enforcement Against Prohibition, said that even though police leaders publicly clamor for tighter medical pot regulations, they’ve repeatedly thwarted such regulations in the legislature.

The failed war on drugs of course.

Medical marijuana or god forbid legalization is a threat to their paychecks.

If it's legalized we'll have to lay off half of them.

California legalization initiatives are already in motion for 2014, but they don't have big money behind them. I think the big players want to hold off until the presidential election year.

But Alaska and maybe Oregon should legalize next year, and another bunch in 2016.
