that RW Christians don't believe their own holy book.

They wouldn't DARE do what they do if they thought they were going to be judged on it.

Not that I countenance being Republican, either.

Bible is multiple choice. Justifies anything, even condemning Republicans.

1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 ESV / 80 helpful votes

And to aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you, so that you may walk properly before outsiders and be dependent on no one.

Proverbs 12:24 ESV / 68 helpful votes

The hand of the diligent will rule, while the slothful will be put to forced labor.

The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.

2 Thessalonians 3:10-12 ESV / 247 helpful votes

For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies. Now such persons we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living.

Personally I prefer the Sermon on the Mount, and other sections that emphasize fellowship and kindness. The third section I quoted, I am sure not a surprise, is a favorite of Mrs. Palin.

The bible was used for Millennia to justify slavery, and an idiot is right now using it to justify genocide. You can literally find anything to justify anything.

...and there are so many sections in it, particularly in the Old Testament, that were quite clearly written for particular tribes of people at particular points in history.

Of course, biblical fundamentalists cherry-pick the Bible to justify their own personal and social prejudices.
