MINNEAPOLIS (AP) Joey Prusak was appalled when he saw a customer at the suburban Minneapolis Dairy Queen store where he works pick up someone else's $20 bill and slip it into her purse.
So when the woman got up to the counter to order, Prusak refused to serve her unless she returned the money. When the woman refused, the 19-year-old store manager went a step further: He gave the visually impaired customer who hadn't realized he'd dropped the money $20 out of his own pocket.
Snip: Prusak said he even got a call Thursday from billionaire Warren Buffett. Buffett heads Omaha-based Berkshire Hathaway, which owns Dairy Queen.
"He called and thanked me for being a role model for all the other employees and people in general," Prusak said.

(17,301 posts)disgusting?
A Billionaire, a man that has it all, and enough for generations to come, calls a man that (WORKS FOR THE BILLIONAIRE) has a minimum wage job, earning (not enough to live on) or (POVERTY) and can only muster a "THANK YOU" ?
Oh how magnanimous of Mr. Buffet.
Perhaps instead of a "Thank You" (costing the BILLIONAIRE NOTHING) Mr Buffet should give the man (and all of his minimum wage workers) a raise and pay them (or at least this one man) enough to live on !
The man of excessive WEALTH calls to thank the man of POVERTY for giving from what little he has. No other word is applicable except ........"DISGUSTING"

(16,399 posts)Yesterday there was a story about an ex-football player's summer cabin being trashed, and it was posted just for someone to say they don't care that a "millionaire" (an assumption on their part) had their home trashed and a bunch of other nonsense about how evil football is.
This place is losing it.

(15,472 posts)have been hid, for blowing my lid . Part of peoples hate for the wealthy isn't just the envy or the misanthropy the rich generate, but the guilt their accusers hide, as they aspire to be like them .

(2,605 posts)Warren Buffett is a fucking snake only worthy of derision. The irony of him thanking someone for being a role model is bizarre.
Buffett is only interested in plumping up his public image with little stories just like this, while he fucks over people of ordinary means.

(3,724 posts)So, the owner of the company calls an employee to commend and thank him for doing a good deed, and that's somehow wrong? I would bet money that if Buffet did not call the guy, you'd be everywhere complaining about that as well. So which is it: phone call good? or phone call bad?
WCLinolVir
(951 posts)If what he is supporting/commending are policies of honesty and integrity, then how about livable wages?? There-in lies the hypocrisy of his phone call.
I think it's called window dressing, and worth what you pay for.

(951 posts)He was talking about taxes. Shameful what a free ride these people (1%), get.

(30,058 posts)I know a lot of people in the position of Warren Buffett did not want him saying he paid less percentage than his secretary and they were unhappy he was doing so and wanted him to stop pointing this out. The tax rates given for capital gains is low, ergo Romney paid less than 15%.
If you have a link on the wages paid by BH-DG I am interested.

(35,661 posts)Warren Buffett is probably one of the better of the snakes. He has some unusual ideas and doesn't seem to be after just money. He drives an older car and lives in a relatively modest house for a man of his circumstances.
As far as what posters have said about Buffett doing something for Prusak, he actually is the employee of the franchisee. Prusak is, as the story says, the manager for that particular franchise.
Furthermore, the DQ company is considering something for Prusak:
Dean Peters, a spokesman for International Dairy Queen, said the company is figuring out how to reward Prusak.
Personally, I liked the story but not necessarily because of the Buffett angle. I liked it because this person had the guts to call the real snake in this story (the woman who took the visually impaired man's money) on her action. He had the guts to have a few words with her. He stood up for what he believed in, even at the risk of letting other customers know what happened.
