http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/business/2013/09/19/sinclair-broadcast/2819599/Look at the amount of TV stations they have bought up. Sinclair and Clear channel already own most of the am radio stations and now they are buying up the TV stations. We all know what happens when one party owns all the media. That is what they are quietly doing as we are looking over here.

(60,010 posts)Used to be a law...us boomers remember when Bell Teleephone was a monopoly, and was forced to break up.
And there was a law against owning more than medium in an area..you could not own a radio or tv station AND a newspaper,
or more than one radio station.
Corporations got those laws changed.

(9,089 posts)The Telecommunications Act of 1996. A horrendous piece of legislation that opened the floodgates to monopolization of the major media.
Now 5 corporations own 98% of all major media channels. If you don't think that that near monopoly helps our overlords control to their advantage framing and messaging to the general public, well then I have a bridge here to sell to you. (This barb is not directed to Snotcicles, who via his allusion to the TCA suggests he/she is well aware of the issues.)
