Man carrying chicken at protest faces $263.50 fine; man carrying AR-15 faces fine of "zero dollars."

Last edited Mon Sep 23, 2013, 03:56 PM - Edit history (1)

Man carrying bird at protest faces $263.50 fine for ordinance violations while backers packed assault weapons.

APPLETON, Wis. -- When Mark Scheffler was asked to leave a gun protest, along with his brown hen named Winchester, on Saturday, it was precisely the point he wanted to make at the popular gathering.

Chickens are far safer than firearms and laws allowing for open carry need to change, said Scheffler of Appleton.

"Carrying a loaded assault weapon in downtown Appleton, the fine is zero dollars," he said. "The fine for carrying a loaded chicken — and she is loaded — is $263.50."

(snip)

Demonstrators who joined Scheffler wore T-shirts emblazoned with silhouettes of a chicken and an AR-15 rifle. They passed out leaflets encouraging people to contact state lawmakers in support of a change to the law. They argued that while open carry is fine in rural areas, cities should have the right to decide whether people can outwardly carry their guns within their borders.

open carrying a long gun is just dumb.

I'm all for a progressive 2A stance, but carrying AR's or other long guns tarnishes a good law and will result in everyone being punished not just long gun carriers.

Have any idea how fucking loud that is, or how early they do it?

I do, because my Buff Orpington crows, and she's a hen. If we lived in the 'burbs or an urban neighborhood, our neighbors would have killed us by now.

Also, chickens poop almost constantly. I have over 1/2 acre for my 2 hens to to roam and poop on, but in an urban setting ... the smell and disease potential is pretty high (chickens can be a vector for H1N1 and other avian flus).

So it kind of sucks, but given that most people do, too and can't be relied upon to take proper care of chickens ... maybe it doesn't suck quite that much (though nothing will keep a chicken from crowing).

and the chickens that take on this habit, are not as loud as an actual rooster.

At least, this is what my friends who have urban and suburban chickens have told me.

The bit on the end is a compensator, keeps barrel rise down by directing gas up, and back a bit. So the pistol doesn't come back over the top of your hands and embed itself in your face.

Useful pistol for boar, maybe bears. Some people like to hunt black bears with pistols for some reason. It really doesn't have any other even remotely likely purpose.
