You may remember her iconic pro-Occupy photo. She is now in hospice. Stephanie Sautter

She has been my Facebook friend ever since the photo came out and now Stephanie Sautter is in the final stages of her fight against breast cancer.

She had to delay treatment until she was accepted by Medi-Cal for low income folks.

I just saw her Facebook post about being in hospice and I am pretty upset.

Please join me in wishing a peaceful and pain-free passing over for Stephanie.

I'm going to try and keep my updates up about once a week for everybody. I'm on hospice now at my mom's house, am very tired. These meds I'm on I can barely keep my eyes open to read of all things, so I sleep a lot. I think I'm finally settling into some form of groove. I love you all so much, thank you for all the love, support and energy healings your blasting me with... I am receiving them, no doubt. Lots of beautiful words you've sent me, thank you! At some point when I am no longer able to write updates - I;ll have my mom bust in on a few for me. She's also promised to let you all know when I crossover as well. Any Ideas where I should throw my ashes? She keeps asking me, I have no idea, but am open to just about anywhere. One Love, Event in Process!

And her plight is not that different from millions

As rich a country as we are millions are living on the edge, hoping they or someone in their family doesn't get sick. The ACA is a start but we need a single-payer system like every other advanced industrial country in the world. How did we become so uncaring a society?

On my last job (2012) they jacked up the deductible on the health care to $3000 — can you believe it? That's like having no healthcare. But they get away with it.

How the repugs who opposed national healthcare look in the mirror I don't know.

No one should be denied care or have to delay treatment until obtaining funding. This is wrong. This is murder.

We will have universal health care and it will be named for all the Stephanie Sautters we lost while we were coming to our senses.

... can people die without receiving the treatment they need. I'm so infuriated by this example and by our system. There is absolutely no reason she should be dying. Had she received the treatment she needed, at the time she needed it, her prognosis would likely be much more positive.

In my (very emotional) view, our system attempted to murder her. When she does pass on, the system will have accomplished its mission.

Signed,

Enraged Anarchist!

P.S. Teabaggers better not utter the word "death panel." The ordeal this woman went through, in the system we have now, is a death panel.

her crossover be filled with peace and love and may she find the kind of peace, love and care on the other side that she did not receive here. Damn all of those who put profit before the health of people, and who equate the moral worth of a person and, therefore, their "worthiness" to receive necessary treatment, with how much money they have and/or how good their insurance is. Sick, disgusting, inhumane, anti-Christian.

This did, however, finally prompt me to get off my duff and make an appointment for a mammogram as it's been over two years since my last one and I'm overdue.

My reply to anyone who professes to be pro-life is two-fold.

ONE - Really, how noble. And you have how many adopted crack babies?
TWO - WHY? What makes you think its any of YOUR business if that is not your wife, lover, mother, aunt or daughter?

Never gotten a single good reply yet...

Just stupefying that this could happen in America. But it's no longer the America I believed in when I was growing up. Too much greed, short-sightedness, selfishness, thoughtlessness, willful ignorance, petty grudges, and poor sportsmanship. And pure unadulterated meanness. Safe passage, Stephanie. It'll undoubtedly be a kinder place you're headed for.

This is a disgrace. A young life cut short for no reason other than a lack of healthcare...why have we allowed this to go on so long? How many stories like Stephanie's have been repeated year after year? And we have a group of people who are doing their level best to make sure this story continues? Fuck them, and fuck cancer too while we're at it.

I have told my family I'd like to be scattered down the National Mall so I can haunt them all forever.
I live in Pa now but I was born in DC and grew up in the area; I'd like to 'go home' when I 'go home'.
But if scattering the ashes doesn't work, I have a plot in Congressional Cemetery, so I'll still 'be close'.

Palin, Cruz and the rest of those crazy, dangerous, idiotic RWers want for all the 99%ers. No doubts in my mind that this is how far america has fallen as a 'civilized' nation because of RW extremist power over all lives in america. This is truly a sad statement on american empathy for the less fortunate among us not able to pay the kings ransom necessary for health care. God! This pisses me off.
