Update: Carrying gun(s) around schools didn't work out quite as man hoped

Update to the story posted a few days ago: http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=3711308

The man said he was making a point about gun rights, offering condolences to victims of gun violence and trying to demonstrate that gun owners aren't by and large evil people. It's not the first time he's open-carried around the schools, packing either a shotgun or handgun.

On Thursday, he was carrying both.

It turns out, his mother is a teacher at Century High. He said she doesn't know it was him carrying the gun, and that she'll likely be upset when she finds out.

Still, although it was inadvertent, he said he thinks he might have made Hillsboro schools safer.

Or, at least they try to make that argument to cover up for their lack of decency in a civilized society.

Last think I want are Zimmerman wannabees trying to make us safer.

I am an adult and have been for decades, and many years before I married you. As that adult, it is MY responsibility to take care of myself. You are under no duty or obligation to protect another adult person, thank you very much. It shocked him, but he eventually saw the logic and agreed.

There is another thread over this subject, what he is doing is not against the law in his area.

Ok, don't call police if that is how you feel, but at least call him an ignorant, immature fool, or whatever.

A school needing to "lock-down" because of a man with a gun strutting around the periphery of the property ... can you imagine (acknowledging very recent history) how the staff and students felt ... I would imagine terrified and terrorized

why do this? Everyone in the US knows what happened at Sandy Hook Elementary .. why do something that would terrorize innocent people like this?

It's a tribal thing. Some people are viscerally uncomfortable in the presence of guns, others aren't. Neither "side" really addresses that disconnect.

Even the monumentally insensitive stupid sack of shit acknowledges that what he did- incidentally, sending 4 schools into lockdown- may not have been such a great idea.
