So three of the gunmen are dead and ten have been arrested

including two caught at the airport trying to leave Kenya.
Two or three are American and one is a British woman, thought to be the one I mentioned in a Sunday post, Samantha Lewthwaite

<snip>
Speculation is growing that terrorism suspect Samantha Lewthwaite from Northern Ireland, dubbed the White Widow, had been killed as Kenyan military forces attempted to end the three-day siege at a Nairobi shopping mall.

Americans and a British woman were among the terrorists who attacked the mall, killing more than 60 people, Kenya's foreign minister said today.

Amina Mohamed said the attackers included "two or three Americans" and "one Brit". She told the PBS NewsHour programme that the Americans were 18 to 19 years old, of Somali or Arab origin and lived "in Minnesota and one other place" in the US.

The woman is believed to be Lewthwaite, from Banbridge, who is already wanted in Kenya on terror charges.

An interior minister said the attackers were all men:

Ms Mohamed appeared to contradict earlier comments from Kenya's interior minister, who suggested that all the attackers were men - though some may have been dressed as women.

It's possible that Amina Mohamed is relaying the speculation in the media, rather than official government information.

It might be quite easy to mistake anyone in the mall for one of the terrorists in the confusion, but this story says there was a woman speaking in English, not Swahili, with a non-Kenyan accent:

Two Radio Africa Group employees caught in the gun battle said a woman appeared to be giving orders. One said her face was covered but she had a woman's arms and body. She was not carrying a gun but had large bag around her waist.

They said she would speak English in a foreign accent and then her orders would be translated into Swahili and the attackers would advance.

"The woman was not armed but as soon as she issued orders, the men would go on a killing rampage," one employee said.

"It was definitely a woman because we could tell it from the voice," said another employee.
