I think the marble tile at the UN looks like total crap...

What a botched job. that should all look like one piece by laying it to match veins etc. The process is called bookmarking and this was laid randomly and really it bothers me.

It really only works with small areas, especially with a material like marble, which varies quickly in three dimensions. The installation is standard for the material. Seems like a small matter to me.

If larger slabs of marble are used, some book-matching can be done, but with 12" tiles, as those appear to be, it doesn't work very well. You might even book-match four tiles, but not the entire wall, and the marble must be ordered with book-matching as a specification. It would be outrageously expensive for a large wall like that. Truly.

A backdrop for speakers, even at the UN hardly warrants that expense. A memorial can, though. It can be done, but it's a very expensive proposition, and has to be planned before quarrying even begins.

matched up because it is a natural stone and there is so much variation. It isn't like matching the repeating pattern in wallpaper.

However, when 12" tiles are used, that's not even close to being practical. On a wall that size, it's just not a real possibility at any sort of reasonable price.

FFS, that is the least of my concerns.

Hey-soos a Christo, are there no limits to the petty bullshit around here?

How about we worry about what's going on there, instead of going all TMZ on the fucking furnishings?
