(Omaha Steve) Candidates field questions at forum

http://www.omaha.com/article/20130926/NEWS2001/130929029/1120#candidates-field-questions-at-forum

By Eugene Curtin

A well-attended candidates forum Wednesday night saw the four men seeking election to the Ward I seat on the Bellevue City Council field questions from the Bellevue Leader and from an audience of about 100 people.

Steve Carmichael, Dave Compton, Steven Dawes and Michael Knebel spent almost two hours addressing questions as varied as the city's budget, the need for economic development, building harmony on the City Council, the possibility of establishing a restaurant tax and the worth of the recently installed bicycle lanes along Fort Crook Road.

Dawes, the lone Democrat seeking election, drew laughter when he introduced himself as “the tax-and-spend Democrat in the race.” He stood firm throughout the evening for the principle that Bellevue residents must be willing to pay for excellent service, and that the future of Bellevue depends on how much its people are willing to invest.

He said he favors establishing a restaurant tax because that would bring in revenue from non-Bellevue residents using Bellevue restaurants.

Steve;
You are a great community activist and union activist. A good progressive realizes that union membership is a major part of the progressive movement and integral in the history of the movement.
I have been retired from my job and the union that represented me for 4 years. I helped represent members for 20 years and still off the record advise other members and leaders. I not only support the progressive movement but also still pay dues to my union.

From one Union Brother to another "Give them Hell" or just tell the truth and they think its hell. It sounds like your opponents have "pie in the sky" dreams but don't want to pay a penny or two more when they go out to eat their pie.

Brother fight the good fight and you will win
