It's amazing to me that they have such a huge voice and influence. There can't be more than 15% of the population that agrees with them but it comes off as half and half through media presentation.

5. I don't think that they realize

that all the dire warnings of how bad everything is going to be have made the masses immune to giving a shit.

We keep ourselves better informed than many others do, and we see the dangers, but for the larger number of people, until they see real problems that are obviously due to the sequester and government shutdowns, they are seeing this as "the sky is falling" silliness.
