7 Hours in a Car with a Minnesota Conservative...

- Why is it called Obamacare!? Who names a law after themselves, who does he think he is?
- I voted for Romney... Meanwhile she is elderly, unemployed, and without medical care.
- She did not vote for Obama because he is a Muslim (YES... For real!) FWIW... I think that is code for because he is "black".
- She is pro-choice.

WTF... I really don't get it? How can we get these people to realize they vote 100% against their self interests? How do they not see it?

And my god if she was not family she would be on the side of the road in NH somewhere... Live free or die!

And then I told her all about the Heritage Foundation and how Mitt Romney essentially launched the plan in Mass.

This was all news to her. Mind you she is on Minnesota health currently (you know a socialist medical plan!) but she is not the problem!

This is when we got into the whole Muslim bit...

And then I told her Obama must be hung like a horse and he is apparently so cocky he named the damn bill after himself. Needless to say there was a period of silence after that.

Oye.

His parents are deceased, he is disabled and autistic. and my family keeps an eye on him. He does not drive and take him shopping once a week and get to hear his right wing rants. He is tea party all the way. He reads all the right wing blogs on the internet and gets all kinds of mail that say things like Obama is a Muslim and believes everything they say.

He receives disability and medicare and he is in section 8 housing. He can't understand that if it were not for these Democratic programs, he would probably be dead, having died of lack of medical care, housing or starvation.

from, courtesy of liberal Democrats and some moderate republicans, he would have a miserable life or be dead already. At the very least he's be dependant on his family to take care of him. That would mean thousands in expenses every year and a considerably lower status for him.

As it is, he's got a power chair, customized van, handicapped accessible in every way free housing, and with in reason, can pretty much go where he pleases. I guarantee you, the value of every service he uses and what he consumes is more than my lifestyle costs. It's probably not even close. Still, he's teabagger to the bone.

about welfare mothers, but were perfectly happy to stick their profoundly mentally damaged daughter in a state care home to the tune of at least (my guess) $200,000 per year of taxpayer money so they didn't have to take care of her at home.

If there's anything we know about most of these RWers, it's that they themselves are little more than profoundly mentally damaged themselves.

Obama she made your vote not count. Someone who believes every lie she hears and is convinced he is a Muslim...

Why do you care that she didn't vote for Obama?

The way I remember it Obama won anyway, or am I missing something?

Wouldn't it have been more relevant for you two to talk about Hillary? Presumably she will not vote against Hillary because she thinks Hillary is a muslim, will she?

And you think she voted 100% against her interests. That because she is "elderly, unemployed and without medical care" that means she should have voted for Obama. Yet Obama won and she still seems to be "elderly, unemployed and without medical care". Shouldn't she be billions of ways better off because Obama won?

Maybe her votes for Congress matter too.

But we did talk about Hilary and according to her she feels comfortable supporting her.

So really it all boils down to racism or issues with religion. I think it is good to point out when people are being bigoted and BO was the relevant example in this case.

I think it is annoying how so many people want to jump right to race when it comes to Obama.

And Obama is now yesterday's news. He's a lame duck. Not really the most relevant topic. Not worth arguing about.

I have a relative who was sorely disappointed that Alan Keyes didn't run for president again, and who sees more secret Muslims in politics than a season's worth of Homeland scripts.

We talk about sports and cars. Because he's family, and family is important.
