"trying" to be reasonable any more.
Good. Easier for us to dispatch them faster! It was a 6-zip decision, BTW. |

Is all speech you disagree with "hate speech" ? http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=3796625 REASON FOR ALERT: This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate. ALERTER'S COMMENTS: Admitted Republican insults liberals and defends RW radio hosts. JURY RESULTS You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Sun Oct 6, 2013, 06:07 PM, and the Jury voted 6-0 to HIDE IT. Juror #1 voted to HIDE IT and said: yawnnnnn.... Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT and said: I don't come to DU to listen to this garbage. Hide it, for god's sake! Juror #3 voted to HIDE IT and said: This is a Democratic message board and in-your-face RWNJ's don't belong here. Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT and said: I suspect this hide will make his point, and he can show it to all his republican friends. OK. Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT and said: This site is for discussion by democrats not to defend ourselves from rude assholes who can't even say democratic instead of democrat while accusing us of the inability of reasoned debate. Juror #6 voted to HIDE IT and said: Ah a 27%ter. Go to www.mediamatters.org and all the examples you could every require are there. I see that your bravado has made you some fans. Authoritarians love that rough, tough talk. Why dont you discuss issue here and not worry so much about the trolls. Trolls have a tendency to get themselves in trouble without much fuss. And we all recognize trolls. |

you're *sure* you have a troll.
I've been active in Democratic politics since before I could vote, and have worked EACH AND EVERY SINGLE SOLITARY election for democrats since 1986. I've never missed a vote...not even a primary. Having someone impugn your allegiance is a pretty shitty thing, but I am not saying you were part of my cabal. (I call them the R S T L N E ers because it is always the same thing with them, and I am honestly starting to think THEY are the ones interested in seeing right wing smears going unchecked) Lately, however, this place has been unified *heaven* for me. ![]() |

20. Effective trolling plays both ends against the middle.
You will have trolls that say nasty things, and then trolls that rave against them.
And the whole purpose is to cause us all to go troll hunting and attack each other and cause suspicion among us. It is a losing game for us...and they think it is funny when we fall for it. The only way to deal with it is to talk about the issues and not accuse anyone of things you can never prove, and let the admin deal with the trouble makers as they surely will. |

26. The lazy - worthless meme put out by the right
is ignorant propaganda.
As much as I can I try to explain to anyone who will listen that "effort" and "opportunity" are not the same things. You can work like a dog all your life...as so many do...and it will get you nothing if it doesn't come with opportunities. Opportunity is what makes money. Most opportunities are the result of birth and having nothing to do with effort. If you're white, if your parents are wealthy and educated, if you are born in the right place, if you're a male, if you have enough food, enough access to health care...ALL of these create opportunities for you to make money and require absolutely no effort on your part. Effort CAN create opportunities but it will never give you the opportunities that hitting the genetic lottery can. You CAN work hard and put yourself through school. You CAN build a business from the bottom, if you have a great deal of luck and help...but you're competing against people who have a leg up on you (several legs up even) and your effort can never even the playing field from those gifted with built in opportunity by virtue of birth. I see people every day working themselves to death just to keep their heads above water. They expend superhuman effort...and it will never be enough to overcome the opportunities so many on the right take for granted. |

36. I think calling people trolls
without naming names is chickenshit, myself.
I also think acting like an enraged middle schooler on crack, spewing hate, poor spelling, lots of ugly names, and way too many exclamation points, is a juvenile, tasteless, and clueless way to make a point which mirrors the worst of the freepers, tea partiers, and right wing "morans" that this site is supposed to oppose. If you have a problem with something someone posts, why not say so to them, directly, countering their position with evidence and logic? Why "sneak up on" them with personal attacks? |

39. this is the big one
so let them have their hissy fit. This is the mother of all hissy fits. They are children. They must scream and cry and stamp their feet and hold their breath until they pass out. They are a bunch of brats living in a bubble They do not know the same reality that we do. The world we actually live in does not exist in the narrative they understand.
So let them get it out. They will tire and go back to their regular nap time schedual . |

I doubt there are that many of them.

52. Most of us can spot them pretty quickly
and MIRT is on the job, kicking them through the goalposts on their way outta here.
Just alert and step away to watch the fun. A few of them have been slick enough to evade detection for a while, posting jokes and the like in the DU Lounge. However, they always give themselves away in the end. They can't help it, you know. |

63. I think it's a vicious cycle...
Crappy economic times coupled with a lower work ethic in the current generation (18-29) just feeds on itself.

65. ? lower work ethic?
they've been thoroughly screwed and are very much demoralized; I am not sure that is the same as "lower work ethic"

66. Call it what you want...
As a generation they have all been told what special snowflakes they are and how they deserve a fulfilling job with an excellent salary right out of college (which everyone else also attended by the way)
No one seemed to mention everything that leads up to that... http://www.huffingtonpost.com/wait-but-why/generation-y-unhappy_b_3930620.html |

69. much of that is over-simplified crap
how about the part where Generation Y saw their Boomer parents do all the right things, work long and hard yet end up getting crapped on by their employers, who pimped their jobs off to the lowest overseas bidders and by the 1% who stole a great deal of their economic security? I don't like Generation Y being stereotyped any more than I care for people telling me what I am because I am a Boomer. F*** that.

70. Ignore it if you want...
No one is forcing you to do anything.
As nice as it would be, we can't talk about each individual in a large group so we talk about them as a whole. It's pretty easy to just dismiss it though... |

72. In which industry would you like my generation to employ a work ethic?
Finance?
Manufacturing? IT? All careers in which politicians were busily working to destroy as we watched our parents enjoying the last great years of the golden age of the Middle Class. I'm not going to eagerly embrace a shit wage with no benefits and no hope of vast pension funds, a 401 (k) a new vehichle and a yearly family vacation. Many of us weren't old enough to affect change that currently affects us now, that was *your* doing. So forgive me if I won't roll over and bow down to your "I've got mine" shit-tastic attitude that Gen Y is just being "lazy" FFS! |

Short of a guarantee of benefits, pension and vacation... why bother?

74. No, you summed it up in what used to be a quality of life for most Americans
in your attitude that because the younger generation is not afforded the same opportunity, that you look upon US as the failure.
Many of us are busting our asses day in and day out, but because we complain of the disintegrating safety net in our country, we are deemed a lazy. You sound a LOT like my Republican father. |

68. For all they try to sneak, you can usually spot them from a mile away.
The "work ethic" thing set off an alarm for me too. There was even a guy that unsarcastically (Is that a word? It should be.) used the word "takers" in a thread about raising the minimum wage. The only people they're fooling are themselves, and that's only because they're so easily fooled.
