Chamber of Commerce announces it will back Republicans that vote to end shutdown, raise debt ceiling

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce says that it will make campaign donations to Republicans that vote to end the government shutdown and raise the debt ceiling, putting it at loggerheads with the Tea Party.

That is significant, because The Chamber provides a financial counter balance to House incumbents that could face a primary challenger if they support a “clean” continuing resolution to fund the operation of the U.S. government or to raise the sovereign debt that can be issued by the United States Treasury to avoid a default.

The shutdown crisis began last week over an attempt to nullify the ACA by defunding it. Republicans have unsuccessfully tried to repeal or dismantle the ACA 46 times. Opponents claim that it is a “job killer,” but some leading economists say there’s no evidence to substantiate it. Republicans spent months planning their shutdown strategy over the law, an extreme aberration from the normal legislative process and rebuke of the 2012 election.

Those with big pockets depend on a healthy stock and bond market to keep their wealth.

This pretense of fluffing them up as if they were an actual Party serves them. The Greens have an actual Party. There is a Tea Caucus. But not a Party. If the rest of the Republicans stopped fluffing them up, they'd be a few radical shouters in the House, which has always had a few of those. In the past others did not roll out the red carpet and announce they were equal to the DNC and RNC.

If the want to pull the republican party back from the cliff of ideological incompetence, they're going to need to threaten to donate to primary and general election challengers to any tea-addled republicans who vote against a clean CR or clean debt ceiling increase - REGARDLESS of how those votes turn out.

Where & when did the CofC say any of this? If it's true, great; but a lot of it seems to be wishful thinking.
