White House Press Secretary Jay Carney took a jab at ABC Senior White House Correspondent Jonathan Karl on Monday and suggested that he was little more than a Republican Party stenographer who would represent House Speaker John Boehners (R-OH) point of view.During Mondays White House briefing, Carney was telling Reuters correspondent Mark Felsenthal about Boehners insistence over the weekend that Republicans would not pass a clean bill to raise the debt ceiling when Karl broken decorum and interrupted.
Thats not what he said, Jay, Karl objected. Im telling you thats not what he said.
Im having a conversation here, Carney shot back. Im sure youll represent what the Speakers saying in a minute.

(15,438 posts)Here's a little history on this Right-wing Republican that FAIR (Fairness and Accuracy In Reporting):
Karl came to mainstream journalism via the Collegiate Network, an organization primarily devoted to promoting and supporting right-leaning newspapers on college campuses (Extra!, 9-10/91)such as the Rutgers paper launched by the infamous James OKeefe (Political Correction, 1/27/10). The network, founded in 1979, is one of several projects of the Intercollegiate Studies Institute, which seeks to strengthen conservative ideology on college campuses. William F. Buckley was the ISIs first president, and the current board chair is American Spectator publisher Alfred Regnery. Several leading right-wing pundits came out of Collegiate-affiliated papers, including Ann Coulter, Dinesh D'Souza, Michelle Malkin, Rich Lowry and Laura Ingraham (Washington Times, 11/28/04).
The Collegiate Network also provides paid internships and fellowships to place its members at corporate media outlets or influential Beltway publications; 2010-11 placements include the Hill, Roll Call, Dallas Morning News and USA Today. The programs highest-profile alum is Karl, who was a Collegiate fellow at the neoliberal New Republic magazine.

(81,527 posts)Probably was a classmate of chuck todd-blossom. Wonder if he went there, too.
BTW::::::: I saw Toure today on MSNBC's "The Cycle" - doing a humdinger of a commentary on the plague of false equivalency running rampant in the media. I kept wondering - MAN, is he pointing a finger at todd-blossom - without naming names, that is? Sure seemed like it to me. It was a flat-out condemnation of the efforts by some in "journalism" (maybe we should rename it JERKalism in the name of accuracy in reporting) simply to let both sides say their piece and then expect the listener or viewer to put the pieces together and reach reasonable conclusions. And that is NOT the way it should be done!!! Especially in this day and age where the information brokerage is SO damned polluted with opinion and sneaky-ass snake-oil posing as impartiality. Rachel Maddow makes a perfect analogy to illustrate the point that NOT ALL positions on an issue are worth paying attention to. Not all views are equal or fact-based and should not be presented or misrepresented as such. For example (this is Rachel's) - every time we present a story on NASA or some other space-related report, are we obligated to give equal time to the Flat-Earth Society? And of course the answer is NO FRICKIN' WAY!!!!! Because the Flat-Earth Society has no place having their side "represented" in situations like this. Why? Because THEY DON'T FRICKIN' HAVE A SIDE!!!!! They have NO point worth legitimizing or otherwise wasting a moment of precious airtime gaining credibility. Some sides just do NOT deserve equal status or attention!
Tell that to todd-blossom, of course. He's got a big fat tin ear. But I think he's getting a little heat about it. A stink IS being made. Not a big-enough one, in my opinion. But it's out of the shadows, for sure, and it's being talked about and complained about and petitions have been circulated and signed and comments galore have been posted to let him and his colleagues know that we are ONTO him and there's BROAD disagreement with his assertion that it's not his job to clarify or point out truths and falsehoods. He just wants to be a stovepipe. And he figures that's all he has to do and all he's responsible for, so he can lead into his usual default position that somehow always winds up with "Blame Obama!" I posted on his show's Facebook page about that, too. "...oh, sorry, I forgot, Chuck. You said that's not your job."
Full disclosure: I am a retired broadcast journalist, having been on the news end of things, local and network, for about a quarter century before I retired. This whole subject just galls me to NO END!!! It isn't just doctors who should be sued for malpractice!!!!!!

(1,730 posts)local channel lineup the other night, and as I passed by KOMO Channel 4 (ABC affiliate in Seattle), the newsreader was saying "And from our news partner, the Washington Times.."
The Washington Times?! Seriously?! ABC partnered with right wing toilet paper for their news?
Enough said. I don't care for Channel 4 in Seattle anyway, they've sucked for years, and this is yet another reason not to stop in this channel.

(176 posts)Looks like they issued a retraction, but then didn't correct Karl's fabricated quote:
http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2013/05/exclusive-benghazi-talking-points-underwent-12-revisions-scrubbed-of-terror-references/
//
Editors Note: There were differences between ABC News original reporting on an email by Ben Rhodes, below, and the actual wording of that email which have now been corrected. ABC News should have been more precise in its sourcing of those quotes, attributing them to handwritten copies of the emails taken by a Congressional source. We regret that error. The remainder of the report stands as accurate.

In an email dated 9/14/12 at 9:34 p.m. three days after the attack and two days before Ambassador Rice appeared on the Sunday shows Deputy National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes wrote an email saying the State Departments concerns needed to be addressed. We must make sure that the talking points reflect all agency equities, including those of the State Department, and we dont want to undermine the FBI investigation. We thus will work through the talking points tomorrow morning at the Deputies Committee meeting.
But CNN obtained the actual email:
All
Sorry to be late to this discussion. We need to resolve this in a way that respects all of the relevant equities, particularly the investigation.
There is a ton of wrong information getting out into the public domain from Congress and people who are not particularly informed. Insofar as we have firmed up assessments that dont compromise intel or the investigation, we need to have the capability to correct the record, as there are significant policy and messaging ramifications that would flow from a hardened mis-impression.
We can take this up tomorrow morning at deputies.

Shame on ABC for employing this hack and misleading their readers with a fake "correction".

(47,544 posts)Bonner did say.
There is nothing wrong, otherwise, for reporters who know what they are talking about to correct others.
Remember Candy Crawly of CNN who corrected Romney, saying that Obama did describe the Benghazi attack as an act of terror?
