Guys this is so awesome, they're reading back the transcript from the trial (with a bit of humor added). It has a massive cast, Jamie Lee Curtis, George Clooney, Martin Sheen, Jane Lynch, Matthew Morrison, Brad Pitt, Chris Colfer and quite a few others.
I know that this probably belongs in "Entertainment" however, this is a reading of the most important bits of the Prop 8 trial. It's not fictional. So please Hosts leave this post be.

(2,915 posts)Some of the other acting in this is a bit too melodramatic though.

(12,792 posts)and surprisingly entertaining and poignant. I strongly urge people to watch the posted video if they didn't watch live.

(11,075 posts)The entire cast was amazing! My emotions were all over the place while watching it. Everyone was wonderful, but a few stood out for me: John C. Reilly was frustratingly funny, while Kevin Bacon was just plain frustrating. Jane Lynch made me angry and Chris Colfer broke my heart. And of course, there was Martin Sheen, who was just ... WOW!

(53,339 posts)They showed the press doing interviews with cast members at the after-party, and included a brief clip of Jane Lynch praising the straight cast members, especially, for their commitment to the cause.
The report said that the event is expected to raise $1 million, and that the play is being licensed, for free, to colleges and community theaters throughout the country.

(62,276 posts)It's amazing.
At the end, when the lawyer came out, and pointed out that the videos were suppressed, I wish more people knew that.
If the videos of how vitriolic and evil these people were was to see the light of day it would really open peoples eyes, imo.

(2,286 posts)And the point definitely was made that had this trial been on CSPAN, few would have watched. But with this all-star cast, millions will tune in. I think they all did an awesome job. (It also reminded me how much I want Martin Sheen to be the president.)

(53,339 posts)At the OP link, they've now added an on-screen button to skip the 30 minutes of introductory material (news clips and interviews reviewing the court battles over Prop 8) and go directly to the 90-minute play.

(13,421 posts)I didn't get there in time for the whole thing, but I did manage to see part of the performance and it was just wonderful. I agree that Sheen was his usual stellar self, but I really think the rest of the cast and crew deserve huge props too. If you can manage to sit down and find the time to watch it I encourage you to do it. I agree, it goes beyond "Entertainment." This is the theatre working for social change.
