A Terrified Puppy Named Moot

Moot's stray hold is up on 3/6/2012.
Nashville, NC - A picture can often portray emotion more effectively than words. The photo captured of a 3 month-old puppy named "Moot" at the Nash County Animal control is one such image.

Instead of the carefree joy typically encounted in young puppies, Moot exhibits absolute terror. According to the individual who captured this image, the first time that she picked him up, he was so terrified that he "poo'd".

No dog should have to experience such terror - a puppy this young should not even know that such terror exists. Moot is described as a 3 month old Lab mix who weighs approximately 10 lbs. Moot was picked up as a stray.

Moot needs to have a person who can make him feel safe and loved. He needs security.

A 6 pound Malteze I named Petey. If I picked him up he would piss, shit and sometimes bite out of sheer terror. I believe his prevous home had children who were allowed to torture him.

It was months before I could touch him and he still exhibits extreme shyness around others but he is completely devoted to me.

He was hours from being euthanized and now he is my best little buddy. Loves to snuggle.

Adoprting a dog such as this takes patience. Don't rush it. Give the dog time to learn to trust.

Good luck Moot.

I really can't take on another critter right now, or I'd give him a home in a heartbeat.

I'm going to call though, to see if he can be sponsored to buy him more time. 2 days is so little time....

and written an email to see if Moot can be sponsored to buy him more time. Boarding there is $5/day.

According to the website they may only get 3 days to be adopted -- wrong, I misread. Strays are held 3 days before adoptable. How long they get depends on how full they are. According to petfinder, this is a very small, high kill shelter. All the dogs were listed on petfinder as "critical" and had been posted on 2/27. I hate to think those beautiful dogs may already be gone

Their normal open hours are 1-4pm Mon-Friday.

They *try* to be available from 8-5 for adoptions. Their adoption fee is $20 plus $5 rabies vax if over 6 months.

everybody I know is full up, and every shelter and foster too. The kill rate at this shelter used to be something like 87%.

Puppies are the easiest to adopt out, is what I've heard. So I have to think that Moot's future will be a happy one. Moot is EXACTLY the kind of dog I would adopt and spoil rotten.

Things like this tear at my heart. Poor little fella. I hope he is adopted soon.

I emailed the shelter yesterday to ask about sponsoring. One word reply today: RESCUED

Please note there are several dogs there listed as "Critical" by petfinders. 2 are hounds. One is a lab cross, one rottie, one pit. They look attractive and healthy, but very sad in their pix.

Anybody who can give them a home, please, please, please consider it.
