Santorum Implicitly Concedes Need For Obamacare: Says Special Needs Child Took Up Much Of His Income

Santorum Implicitly Concedes Need For Obamacare: Says His Special Needs Child Took Up Much Of His Income

SANTORUM: Well, we always need to do better. I was in a situation where we have seven children and one disabled child who we take care of, and she’s very, very expensive. We love her and we cherish the opportunity to take care of her, but it’s an additional expense. We have to have around-the-clock care for her, and our insurance company doesn’t cover it so I have to cover it.

I don't get this argument at all.

This validates that private insurance doesn't keep a person out of financial difficulties for medical needs. To me it supports the idea that Obama's approach was flawed.

They don't apply to existing policies.

To get a new policy for her with the good stuff he would have to drop her off insurance entirely for 6 months and then sign her up under the high risk pool due to her pre-existing condition.

This is the situation my assistant with genetic issues and now MS has. No way she could go without coverage right now. So she is screwed - stuck with her crappy Blue Cross policy.
