(33,587 posts)there is no excuse for them to keep this POS broadcasting to our troops. It is an insult to our women in uniform.

(23 posts)I emailed my congressman (Loebsack) and wrote handwritten letters to each of my senators (Harkin and Grassley) here in Iowa. My letters were specifically about encouraging them to do their best to remove Rush Limbaugh from broadcasting on Armed Forces Radio.
Our men and woman serving deserve better.
I encourage others to write to their elected leaders, as well.

(5,995 posts)Implying that a woman in combat should expect more than an acceptable amount of rape. The vitriol from the Right has been passed off as merely a differing point of view that deserves a place in the public forum, this has long since passed the point of accepted political discourse.
Rushbaugh has tried to pass himself off as only an entertainer while reigning Hutt-like over any RW pretenders. Why would anyone want to allow such sexist rhetoric to be broadcast on AFN, implying Pentagon/DC support, is beyond the pale. With the mounting evidence that colleague rape is on the rise in the military, there is a huge civil legal liability risk that could be demonstrated by an implied chain-of-command acceptance of an adverse work environment.
Having just spent three years at an overseas base, when there are only one or two radio stations in your native language, it is imperative that AFN take a good look at what goes out over their airways. Not asking to censor anyone's 1st Amendment rights, the government is under no obligation to underwrite lies and slander from any portion of the political spectrum.

(26,117 posts)I'm in Loebsack's district, too (he's been in my house, even!); he's a little limited in how vocally left he can be, given the makeup of the district.
Harkin is good guy, and I hope you hear back from him.
Grassley is a lost cause, I'm afraid.

(67,808 posts)AFN is a DoD agency and Panetta can end it. Panetta works for Obama. Sending it to the white house is the right strategy.
