It is not bad enough that he provides partisan blather, that he demeans our President.
He has regularly demeaned women.
His remarks this week were well beyond the pale of what should be broadcast to our military and their families, supported with our tax dollars.
We have a moral objection to our tax dollars being used for such a purpose.
You should move immediately to cancel any further broadcast through government facilities of his venom.
There is no excuse for the US Government, in any capacity, giving this man an audience.
It is an insult to the honorable men and women who serve this nation.

I will boycott any organization who pushes to have Rush Limbaugh taken off the air! I have notified all my friends and organizations of these ridiculous petitions as well! Just because the Sec of Defense works for a Radical Leftist President, he needs to be reminded most in the military could care less what Obama thinks and they all love Limbaugh! The one thing they do know for sure is that Democrats hate the military and especially since this nasty radical Socialist Obama came into office!
Thanks for signing Debra!

(8,102 posts)in the form of millions of taxpayer subsidized listeners for his advertisers, but he's complaining about "government funded" birth control--which of course is a distortion of the issue anyway.
A morbidly obese man making jokes about the first lady's weight. A drug abuser demanding that drug addicts be tossed in prison. And a man milking millions in government sponsored ad revenue, insulting the very idea that some aspect of health care should be subsidized (and again, that isn't even the issue--it's health insurers who provide the service, not government).
This man is a cross between Elmer Gantry and Joseph McCarthy. The perfect face of the GOP.
Oh, and I signed the petition. Spread the word--now's the time to hit this pitiful excuse where it hurts--his wallet.

(34,139 posts)Well, it seems that money must be exchanging hands somewhere otherwise why would the American Armed Forces be listed as a sponsor? I am not sure if AFN is buying advertising or just buying the show but either way, they are spending taxpayer money to do so. And while I don't mind it being spent on political commentary in the name of equal time to both sides, I draw the line at what Limbaugh is doing. It isn't political commentary.
Guess what that means for us? It means if we want AFN to stop spending money on the Rush Limbaugh show, our voices need to be heard. Contacting AFN might help, but it could be limited. Contacting the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs via the DoD might help, but it would probably be limited. The best people to contact are those with direct connections to high offices in the DoD, your Congressman and your Senators.
<SNIP>
When a military office receives a question from a Congressman or a Senator, it triggers a special reaction... it's like the biggest, squeakiest wheel in the entire USA... it's called a Congressional Inquiry. Military folks don't like those. The more Congressman that call the DoD, the better!
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/03/02/1070289/-The-American-Forces-Network-Are-Taxpayer-Dollars-Funding-Rush-Limbaugh-
So we ALL need to write our congressmen and women and ask them why Rush is still allowed on AFN.
shcrane71
(1,721 posts)thucythucy
(8,102 posts)that it's not just direct taxpayer dollars going to Rush to either sponsor or pay for his programming.
It's the fact that his advertisers are willing to pay more to sponsor his program knowing that millions of armed forces personnel are a part of his audience. That audience is provided to him courtesy of the taxpayers. Thus, the taxpayers are boosting his ratings, thus boosting his ad revenue.
Either way you look at this, it sucks, and it needs to be changed.

(55,981 posts)thucythucy
(8,102 posts)but I believe this changed under the Bush administration. Not all ads are repeated, but I know that the University of Phoenix (private-for-profit rip-off of a school) runs ads on AFN, and there are probably others as well.

As it is if AFN ditched Limbaugh they'd probably replace him with Hannity, or Neal Boortz, or someone just as odious; a better solution than just asking that they get rid of Limbaugh is that they end partisan political talk radio altogether.

(34,139 posts)Try this -
Go to whitehouse.gov (I am deliberately not making this an active link - if you suspect this is not the White House site, search for that and start from the front page of what you find.)
Click on the We the People link on the right column
Click the Find a Petition and search for Rush Limbaugh
There are more than one petitions for getting Rush Limbaugh off the air, but they are all on the WhiteHouse.gov site.
If you want to make your own petition there, use the first two steps and click on Start a Petition.

Supporters of Rush Limbaugh have initiated a counter-petition on the White Houses public petition website to keep the controversial conservative talk-radio host on the Armed Forces Network radio station, reports Military Times.
<SNIP>
The pro-Limbaugh counter-petition, which was only created on Sunday, presently has 455 of the 25,000 necessary signatures.
