We've all been following this. We've heard the electeds and what they have to say. We've heard the chatterers and what they have to say. We've heard the inside baseball stuff. We traded theories and conjecture.
But wait a sec. is this all smoke and mirrors? You know . . . Harry to Turtle to Boner to Harry to Turtle. To Boner. It occurs to me that a lot of this last minute crap - like Boner yanking tonight's bill - is really about giving the repubic hairs the appearance of fighting for the things their crazy as shit house rat supporters want and then - heroically - voting at the last second to "save the republic" and ward off disaster.
Whew!
Or maybe it is something else.

(45,806 posts)give in to a compromise. I also believe Boner and McTurtle are sane enough that they wouldn't let the Country crash & burn. Boner tried everything he could to placate the idiots and nothing worked, so he has no choice but to bring the Senate bill to a vote when he get's it from McTurtle. I don't see that as smoke & mirrors, but maybe you do.

DUer leveymg and others have correctly identified what is really going on here:
67. It's because this lunacy is all a quite rational way to propel the Center-Right Austerity agenda.
That's precisely why I don't believe this BS about 40 Teahadis being responsible for the "crisis."
A partial shutdown suits the deficit hawks in both parties just fine, since it's been adjusted so it doesn't actually impact payrolls in the military and Intelligence agencies. This is simply austerity and cuts to social programs without anyone having to actually vote for it, and that's making the Center-Right smile.
Of course, they won't allow actual default of the debt - the "threat" of that just another psychological device to make this seem like a real crisis. It's not - it's simply austerity by default.
It's notable that after a few good months during which the American people finally seemed to be uniting and showing some realization that we are being played by corporatists on both sides (e.g. the remarkable bipartisan backlash against NSA abuses and then MIC plans for Syria) the PTB have now found a way to divert from these issues and engage a crisis that will protect the military while simultaneously looting the poor and dividing us into our partisan camps again.
That whole thread is a very illustrative read. The corporatists in both parties are slick and specialize in theater for the masses.
